Poem 122 – Wizard Ways

wizard_2

I have wizard ways I am told

They are not new

In my 120 years I have perfected

A few tricks

Sleights of hand

Look over there!

I am gone!

I can see a word

Know what you mean

Look between your words

Know how you feel.

You might say its intuition.

We wizards have heightened senses

We can tell when you are not yourself

Down a little

In need of a lift

And we can

With a word here or there

Do just that.

It’s the impish look in our eyes that

Betray our intentions.

I am always me, I operate

In the nicest possible way.

Except if a spell is required

Then it’s a serious business

Some hair of dog and eye of newt

Mixed in liberal amounts of gnat wee

Infused into your tea so you’ll never suspect

My magic is working

Making you see life

A little clearer.

I can take that dull edge

Off your world,

Give you a nudge

Send you packing

Wondering

What was the fuss?

So look out for me

I’m just around the next corner

The one in the corner of your vision

With the glint in my eye

The infectious smile

Watching.

For I do have wizard ways!

Photo Challenge #15 “Birdhouse” – Waiting.

cool-surreal-paintings-13

Wait he said.

So I wait.

Day in day out.

How long?

Four years six months eight days.

Said he would come.

Worth my while to wait he said.

So I do.

The house across the way is odd

Always shrouded in fog

A road going to it

None coming from it.

Coaches arrive

Never depart.

I’ve seen a lot,

You do when you wait

See a lot.

A lot of oddness.

But I have my resolve

He will come

He said he would.

I can’t leave

What if he comes?

What would I do then?

So I wait

And I will

Wait.

Poetry Prompt 62 – Holding Hands – In Your Mind

write-a-poem-in-which-hands-are-held

I stepped into your mind

Where like peak hour I found

The hustle and bustle of modern life

Thunderous deafening noise

Lights that flashed on and off

Look at me look at me!

And I wondered

Why I was here.

Sound within your mind

Is a cacophony

I felt overwhelmed,

For within you chaos rules.

I want to run

Flee.

I turned to step away

As your hand slipped into mine.

I felt you lean into me.

As your lips brushed my ear

You whispered

It’s ok

Stick with me

You’ll be ok.

I felt your warmth

Flood blissfully over me.

Originally I wrote a version of this in August 30 2013.

Poetry Prompt 61 – Holiday – Just Us

write-a-poem-which-describes-the-perfect-holiday

Sun

Sand

Resort

Luxury

Just us.

We went to the island

We went alone

No one to bother us

A week of relaxation

Just us.

Sleeping in

Spa baths

Exotic foods

Lounging by the pool

Just us.

Reinvigorated

Rejuvenated

Re-energised

Ready again

Just us.

Coffee

Tea

Tingles

No tangles

Just us.

Wordle #15 – Josie Fraser

wordle151

If there was one thing everyone loved about Josie Fraser it was her chatoyant personality. There was a lustre to her that attracted you instantly only to be further enhanced by the multi layers of this wonderful woman’s colourful character. There was nothing oily nor unpleasant about her.

Her book had been ten weeks on the best sellers list which further enhanced her reputation as a world traveller and authority on all things Afghan. It was her serene nature that had enabled her to spend so many years amongst the noble Afghan’s and so produce a text that won her worldwide acclaim.

There was something about standing next to her that led you believe there was a nimbus surrounding her, like an aura you could not get enough of. You were attracted to this serene and humble woman and when she spoke her words, though crisp in delivery left you feeling you were standing in the presence of a living saintlike woman. Her posture always gave out the air of someone who knew her stuff, who took no rubbish from anyone and would never attempt to slather you with falsehood or untruth in order to attract your attention.

I was lucky to be able to interview her in her home, a stately mansion on the headland overlooking the Pacific Ocean. She was reclining on an old divan when I entered. From my first question it was clear that she had an agenda and it was to induce me to support and to write for my newspaper an article in support of her pet cause the preservation of Afghan artefacts in danger of being destroyed forever with the current unrest in that country.

There was one thing I came away with that day and that was that Josie Fraser was a passionate woman, dedicated to a cause she firmly believed in.

Magpie Tales – Another Hand

framptonmeredithagameofpatience1937

Image: A Game Of Patience, 1937, Meredith Frampton

I expect him any minute

My gaze takes in the street

It’s desolate in the heat haze.

Any minute now…..

I have had that thought

The past four hours.

He must be delayed,

I have missed him so much.

He said it was the last engagement

One more they had told him

Then he would be homebound.

That was……

He is a punctual man

Never late, has pride he says.

Maybe the train? He is ill?

I feel weighed down by the wondering.

The king looks up me

Silent in his message

If I look away,

Denial enables another hand.

Prompt #62 Chi ku – The Maid

smell-of-plumbs-by-chiara-fersini

I am awake at first light

There is water to draw

Dough to knead

Floors to sweep

Washing to do.

Meals to cook.

My days are repetitious

Some old day in day out.

But I am content

My life could be worse

My master appreciates me

Gives me time to gather flowers

Time to walk the forest paths

To sit and commune with natures beauty.

I am well aware of others

Far worse off than me.

Though my days are long,

The tedium mind numbing

I take pride in my work

Try to look my best

Always appear in high spirits.

Some nights, the master,

Holds a ball, invites the well to do

To wine, dine and dance the night away.

In my best maids outfit I enjoy the work

A break from the tedium of the everyday

For as long and tiring as the night is

And I drag myself to my bed

And sleep the sleep of the exhausted.

I am pleased for this variation

When so much is monotonous.

Any variance is welcomed

Knowing the alternative is another day

Of banally bland humdrumness.

Poetry Prompt 60 – Sixty – I Love you

write-a-poem-which-contains-exactly-sixty-words

Sixty words nothing more

No mindless banter

No wasted thought

Make each word

Every pithy pertinent point

Relevant, precise

Metaphorical issues

Laid out for those academically inclined.

Make it simple

For that’s how I roll.

Simple words from a simple man

But no matter how you see it

There are only three words need to be said

I love you.

OpenLinkNight – June, 2014 – Quest

lovers_in_midnight-other

Some days I am lost

Its like I am riveted to the spot.

I want to move but I can’t

I want to reach out but it’s not possible.

I am fumbling, locked in the present,

Unsure of who or what I am

It’s a living limbo,

Neither here nor there.

But all the while ahead of me

The light that is you

Shines brightly

Radiating your warmth

Leading me onwards

You are my focus

My purpose.

The love you share so plentifully

Sustains me, feeds my soul.

There are moments

You take my breath away

When your words catch my breath.

I rest in your arms

You never leave me wondering

As I enfold myself into you.

A place where love abounds

I am content,

Your love replenishes me.

Your patience, your resolve

Stands me in good stead

For soon we will be complete.

Poetry Prompt 59 – Letter

write-a-poem-in-which-someone-receives-a-letter

Weeks had passed

So unlike you to not write.

I wondered why?

What had happened?

Had you decided it was a pointless exercise?

I had feared the worst.

Day after day I searched the mailbox

But nothing with your postmark appeared.

My mood slumped

My hope began to disappear

I thought of a life alone again.

Then I found your letter in my hand.

My heart leapt

Expectation rose

Your declaration of love

Has lifted my spirits.

You are right my love

I am smitten

I am in love with you

You understand me, you accept me

You love me despite my flaws

You love me as I love you.

Your letter I fold and place in the sleeve

I have created in my heart:

That way I sleep with you

Your love enfolds me

I am whole.
