Poem 130 – Can it get any worse?

Some-pain-never-leaves...

The pain is far greater than the meds.

The meds give me the worst side effects

All together I’m slowing unravelling

Can it get any worse?

I lie in what was once my bed

It’s now become a torturers rack

I toss and turn to no avail

Sleep, sleep, what is that?

I’ll take a pill to let me rest

It zonks me out, into a zone

I’m a zombie and I don’t care,

Can I wake up feeling any worse?

I am now at my wits end

Desperation becomes my default

I grab at anything in the hope,

Can it possibly get any worse?

A friend is currently dealing with chronic pain and suffering terribly through it.

I wrote the above in response to the last email I received.

  1. Alastair's avatar Al says:

Chronic pain is so debilitating, especially when you start taking new medication and your body has to fight through all of this new things being thrown into it in an attempt to combat it. I know when I started taking mine, I had serious side effects, and ten years later I still do to some extent. I hope that it evens out soon and your friend starts to feel more human again soon.

  2. Lyn's avatar Lyn says:

Your friend has my utmost sympathy, Michael. I have osteoarthritis and am on two different medications that requires special permission every time the doctor writes a script. The medication helps the pain, but leaves you so brain fogged you wonder if it’s worth it. Sending your friend a gentle hug.

  3. RoSy's avatar RoSy says:

So sorry to hear about your friend. I hope that the doctors can find something that will help ease the pain.

  4. Blogger's avatar mandy says:

I’m so sorry for your friend, Michael. I’ve had friends with chronic pain and you painted an accurate picture of it. I hope they will find a remedy soon for the suffering.

  5. JackieP's avatar JackieP says:

Chronic pain is certainly a hard thing to deal with. Your friend is lucky to have you in their corner Michael.

  6. Suffering of any kind, mind or body is very hard to deal with, the tortuous rack a very apt description of the place of slumber that isn’t so anymore. I hope your friend gets through the ordeal they face. They are lucky to have you for support.

  7. Ugh this is terrible Sam has chronic pain and medication doesn’t help in the slightest. Even anesthetics the poor man literally has had root canals wide awake with no numbing agents or drugs to minimize pain. I often find the side effects of meds make things worse.
