Meeting the Bar ~ Rhythm and Blank Verse – Choices

Man walking away

It’s the door that has thrown me

Open when I was sure it was shut.

Why I ask?

Forgiveness you said

Comes in simple terms

My door ajar

My heart open.

I ask the question

Are you worth the risk?

To venture once again

Into your web

Its twists and turns

No clear passages

Conversation convoluted

Meaning obligatorily stupefied.

Where circles are the norm,

Fatuous argument

The order of the day.

Rather I elect

Acceptance, understanding

The kindness of a true heart

Always open, no fine print,

A quiet soul, who looks and sees,

Me, in all my flaws

Takes my hand

Leads me slowly

Through tales of magic.

  1. The gentleness of an outstretched hands come forth so well towards the end.. but it’s tough when doors are closed.

  2. JackieP says:

Some doors shut so you can see others that are open. I really enjoyed this Michael. To me it says you see another door open that leads to hope and more. Magic indeed.

  3. Ina says:

To find that quiet soul…. 🙂

  4. That was mysterious and exciting

  5. Gabriella says:

I’d also elect ‘The kindness of a true heart’ over the ‘twists and turns’. I welcomed the serenity at the end.

  6. Mary says:

I like that the door you thought was shut is open…and that hope can get through! I like the taking of the hand through tales of magic. It is nice when life leads one like that.

  7. brian miller says:

its that open heart and willingness to accept and surely listen that makes all the difference…and it is a risk because you will get drawn into things well beyond where you ever thought you might go….

  8. PookyH says:

This really resonated with me. I especially identified with:

    “My heart open.

    I ask the question

    Are you worth the risk?”

I am never disappointed when I visit you here.

  9. Tony Maude says:

To be accepted like that is a precious gift indeed – and one I am glad to know I have been and continue to be given. I love the hopefullness of this piece.

  10. Oh to be accepted, no, wanted, just for being who you are. Oh to know that you can put yourself, your heart out there, that vulnerability will be honoured. I have been lucky enough to know who treats me like that, and also had my heart crushed by others. Such is life, in all its twists and turns.

  11. billgncs says:

where trust lives, love grows – very nice!

  12. claudia says:

you just have no idea how much this speaks to me…

  13. Barry says:

    This is rhythmic and beautiful.

  14. If we don’t take risks in life – where would we be. Opening the door and ourselves can lead to many things, pain or happiness. I hope your ‘character’ finds happiness, this was a beautiful piece Michael.

  15. emangster00 says:

    Wow this was just…. BEAUTIFUL.

It’s funny how it’s such a contrast in the same topic, to my poem. Aha

I think about foregiveness alot. It’s one of the scariest things ever, really. Because there is always that fear of being hurt. Especially when that same person already caused you so much pain before. :/

    • Thank you for your comment. You are right about that fear as often we do forgive believing it is a good option to take only to be hurt again. But life is full of risks isn’t it. Thank you for following my blog, please call again.

  16. kkkkaty1 says:

aha….are you worth the risk….sometimes we turn that around, wrongly, (inaccurately) thinking we might not be worth the risk…great blank verse

  17. RoSy says:

Nice to know that when one door closes – another opens. And – as back-up – don’t forget the windows. 😉

  18. Anja says:

Why do people view doors shutting as something final? Isn’t that why there are door knobs to open them once more?
