Literary Quote
To have the sense of one’s intrinsic worth … is potentially to have everything
~ Joan Didion
The minute is approaching. I will soon hear my name called to step out and deliver what many believe will be a message of hope and rejuvenation.
To say my knees are not knocking is to pretend I am not nervous about my coming announcement. It has taken me a long time to arrive at this point where the nation will listen to my words of change. There have been an abundance of past winters and long long nights journeying from place to place across this vast nation.
Now in the enveloping spring, with apple blossoms sprouting on the many trees surrounding this auspicious building, with hope that with the coming spring my words will lift our nation out of its present darkness and into the light and growth of the coming season of renewal.
The bell of introduction rings. A deep breath, my time has come.
hope can ring true
springtime wishes of rebirth
a nation waits

Spring has so much hope in it for renewal. Great Haibun 🙂
Thanks so much Al.
You’re welcome 🙂
Nicely written but aren’t you entering the fall season? lol This weeks prompts…I have no idea what to write. You did wonderfully.
I get your point about it being autumn here now but autumn doesn’t work so well with the idea of rebirth. Thanks for your comment Anja, I always appreciate you reading my work. I hope you find inspiration very soon.
I sense your nervousness – nicely penned Haibun Michael.
Thank you Jenny, happy you could get that from my writing.
One person can make a difference. You captured the hope and nervousness well Michael.
Thank you Jackie, to make a difference no matter how small is always a difference.
Michael, that was very moving. I also have given speeches, although not to a nation, but to hundreds, and to do so, had to overcome my fear of public speaking. The amount of energy that went into fear, would run a city, I think. I hope your speech was well-received. Blessings, Brenda
Thanks Brenda, I have actually given a few and they are very nerve wracking, but like anything if you prepare it generally goes ok.
You just breath, pause and speak with conviction. With personality. Of course it’s harder than getting to the moon for some. It took me years of miserable speaking before I finally found a place in myself to speak from.
That’s exactly right Brenda, I know I don’t look forward to it but when I know I have to speak I like to give it all the prep I can. I think good speakers sound sincere and what they say often comes with conviction and heart.
I’m sure you’re terrific!
Lecturns hide shaky knees.
Good point!
I can see you inspiring a nation. I anticipate his opening statement. Thanks for a wonderful haibun.
Thank you Maryann that is a wonderful comment.
Nicely done Michael! It ties in..sort of with the phone prompt. Maybe because I still have it lurkimg in my mind.
Thank you so much, they were written one after the other. It’s good that you can connect Oliana.
Trick of the trade…looking for connections. …my calls tonight were very exploratory….ran over time…busy but rewarding night.
Busy means your night goes quicker, so that’s sometimes a good thing.
So true.
April approaches and we still wait. 🙂
Thanks Kim, I guess you do.
