OpenLinkNight – May 2014 – I Wonder

love___sharpie1_by_03ketch03-d4vz0am

I wonder what it would be like to:

Not see the sunrise

Not hear the bird’s avian chorus

Not taste a fresh grown strawberry

Not touch the brow of a newborn babe.

I wonder what it would be like to:

Not see your beautiful face

Not hear your words of love

Not taste your lips on mine

Not touch your soft alabaster skin.

I ponder these things as I walk

The morning sunlight splashes my face

I step in time to nature’s song

Knowing my garden abounds in plenty

A new born child imminent any day.

Knowing my own human frailty

I wonder what I might do

How my life would be different

Without you and all you are

In my everyday, in everyway.

I have thought that as I age

I may well lose some faculties

I’m getting older, so I suck it up,

But what would we be to each other?

A presence, an entity, anything?

I fear entering a void

I dread losing any of you

So I maintain my vigil

Checking not taking for granted

Any sign of decline I can avoid.

    Heartrendingly beautiful, Michael.

  2. Keep maintaining your vigil.. a man is as old as he feels after all. Thoughtful and thought provoking poem, about the faculties and relations we have got and how precious they are. 🙂

Somehow I think you have many good years ahead of you, Michael. There are some things a person cannot worry about ahead of time. One can only enjoy each day as it comes and live it to the fullest in every possible way.

  4. There is such tenderness here–so very beautiful

Worry is something I refuse to do about getting older. What will happen will happen, but I do understand the wonders of what might happen if we lose our memories of loved ones. That is probably my most terrifying thought. But it doesn’t stop me from loving or doing what I do. I have this feeling it doesn’t stop you either Michael. Beautiful words, though. I really enjoyed this poem.

    • Thanks Jackie, you are right there is no point in worrying, what can one do about it and it prevents us from enjoying every day. Thank you for your lovely comment and yes I am doing a bit more than my best i think.

As long as you keep yourself active, engaged and interested in the world, you will be young at heart, smiles ~ I can relate on that fear of entering the void and losing my loved ones but for now, enjoy everything every day ~ Enjoyed this one ~

Anyone who can write in such a beautifully, romantic way will never be old! 🙂

its good not to take it for granted…or anyone for granted because we never really know how much time we have…and to think on life without them can be quite the nightmare…in all the things we would miss…

  9. Enjoy the now, don’t worry about then. Be happy.

    A lovely but heartbreaking poem.

  10. Gabriella's avatar Gabriella says:

I enjoyed these questions to yourself and the way you phrased them. I agree with Brian, we should enjoy what we have now and not later.

  11. You are such a romantic soul, Michael. I think you have many, many more words to write and thoughts to share with your loved ones and (hopefully!) us as well. Worrying about the future and not living in the present is something I did, and it was a huge factor in the breakdown of my relationship. A very hard lesson learned.

I really enjoyed this, Michael. It’s funny how when there is such abundant joy in our lives, we are often drawn to the melancholy. I think it’s because we just can’t believe our luck! But I’ve learned to accept it, & cherish it as it happens. It’s a hard skill to learn, but very worthwhile. Enjoy the new baby – lucky you! – Vivienne, of OneVoicePoetry, along with Bjorn et al.

Simply beautiful. To savoir each sense with our loved ones, and never to take those senses/experiences for granted… A lot of wisdom in your words
