Photo Challenge #120 – Ever Vigilant

You never liked the notion of

Head above water….

You feared the notion

Give a person enough rope…

And yet you never deserted

You never gave up,

Though some days you stepped way back.

I thought of us as safe

In control, aware

But the bottom fell out

Our confidence tested

Unwarranted

Not understood

We stumbled and fell….

The water lapped around us

Threatened to drown us

But we are our own security

Seeing in each other

A strength

No one can impinge on.

So we stopped,

Treaded water

Awaited a turn in the tide

Swam forward

Found calmer waters.

Ever vigilant

We look towards the distant light

Praying we get there

Before nature intervenes.

FFfAW Challenge – Week of 07-05-2016 – Ralph’s Plan

photo-20160703144130170

Image: Thanks to Yinglan

Ralph looked through the wire, he saw what he hated most. The bloody Yorkies running round like they owned the place. He and his mate Fluffhead were forever confined to the cage and it just wasn’t fair, no siree it wasn’t. No amount of sucking up to the owner made the slightest difference. She loved the Yorkies more than she loved him.

Ralph’s blood would boil when he saw her taking the little fluffballs on a walk, her hands holding their leads her attention solely focused on the little rodents as Ralph thought of them.

He could be a lovable, cuddly and playful as any little brown ball of fur.

He had a plan, a very cunning plan. That night the Yorkies would find themselves in the midst of a doggy nightmare and he would be the king of the yard. Ralph chuckled a doggy chuckle as he thought of the owner the next morning awakening to his smiling dial.

Word-High July: Kalinaw – Serenity/Tranquility

july-5

Late afternoon and it’s been hot

A day out of the heat.

A gentle breeze suggests cool.

We sit at my back fence,

Watch as the day ebbs away.

The sun slides behind the distant gums

Holding hands, we chat, take in the peace

Afforded us by the end of day.

Moral Mondays: “Freedom is a state of mind”

moral_mondays_logo

After all those years he stepped away.

It wasn’t easy. He thought he’d explained the notion of their use by date being well past. But she was relentless. Tried every trick in the book to discredit him, spread rumours to make him feel guilty. Then simply used her own brand of violence to intimidate him further. It worked.

But he was determined not to buckle.

There was no going back.

He confided in a work colleague. Spat out his worries and the events of the previous day.

She asked him if it was worth it.

He said “Freedom is priceless.”

Wordle #116 – “July 4th, 2016” – Daisy Chain

week-116

This week’s fun words to play with: Starch Trample Protean (readily assuming different forms or characters; extremely variable. changeable in shape or form, as an amoeba. (of an actor or actress) versatile; able to play many kinds of roles.) Walnut Strop (any of several devices for sharpening razors, especially a strip of leather or other flexible material.)  Staccato Waltz Churn Wallflower Dummy Proboscis (the trunk of an elephant. any long flexible snout, as of the tapir. Also called beak. the elongate, protruding mouth parts of certain insects, adapted for sucking or piercing. any of various elongate feeding, defensive, or sensory organs of the oral region, as in certain leeches and worms. Facetious. the human nose, especially when unusually long or prominent.)  Fireworks (the Wordle was missing a word so I added it in)

Daisy Chain was no wallflower. There was nothing that said she was in any way backward in coming forward. In fact, Daisy lusted after most of the men in the village. It was almost an affliction for her. Trampling overall and any who might get in her way was well known among the community.

She was, as many had already discovered, adept in protean abilities. If she knew you fancied blondes it wasn’t surprising to see her arrive in blonde wig and as much fancy makeup as she could manage. In her younger days Daisy had received the strop from her father who thought a good old fashioned belting would bring her to her senses. For extra punishment she would be given butter churn duty which usually occupied her for long hours but in fact gave her more thinking time.

Now Daisy was no dummy and at the annual fireworks display on Australia Day she would be seen, chewing on walnuts, in her best starched dress putting it through its paces in waltz after waltz. She wasn’t into the staccato type dances preferring the graceful and elegant steps.

Now Daisy was graceful there was no doubt, but the one thing that held her back with all the men was her nose. It was for the want of a better term a proboscis. Nature can be cruel and when noses were handed out Daisy must have been in the front row with her hand up holding a hundred dollars. Some thought of her in the same way they did of Pinocchio and his nose, other blamed her parents Long and Merry who were both endowed with noses that arrived at corners long before their faces did.

Nevertheless, Daisy went about her pursuit of men in the hope that one might be ensnared to become her husband and whatever protean act was required she was determined to carry it out.

Word-High July: Gunita

july-4

Cold mornings and a fuel stove

Huddled round the fire

Munching our breakfast

Shivered conversations

The delivery of a hot meal

Always guaranteed to be

Overdone, burnt, a challenge.

But never detracting from what was important

Your love for us, your care.

A mother I cherish.

As years slip away

Your memory stays strong.

Writing Prompt: July 3 2016: The Devil is in the Details

devil_pan_by_deland_by_deland_fox

This card represents: the representative elements of excess, indulgence, over-indulgence, ambition, ego, enslavement, power, control.

It was never easy

The ambition, the mind over decency,

Relentless drive to succeed

Whatever it took,

You were there peddling your worth.

Always needing to be validated

There were dinners of resplendence

Long hours in the preparation

Your galley slave ever there

Washing, cleaning, obeying

Resenting!!!

You never saw that, you saw the praise

Your standing going up,

Impressing, intimidating

Not about love and caring

But a step to recognition

You needed to be somebody

in a nobody world.

So we indulged

Showered good people

With lies and deception

None the wiser they came

With feet under our table

Had no idea of the trauma

To make what was happening.

Then standing longer

The clean-up, the rearranging

While you slept, too tired to help.

Your power, your manipulation

You controlled the ones

You should have loved.

Used them for your own gain,

I’m not sure they forgive you

I know I find it hard.

Word-High July: Tinatangi – Someone Special

july-3

They appear once in your life

That someone special

The person who captives,

Holds you mesmerized.

When they speak you focus

On their every word.

They take your breath away

The reason your heart skips a beat

When declaring they care and love you

Just for being you.

SoCS July 2/16 – Long

socs-badge-2015

Well here is the long and short of it. The announcement came at the end of a very long day and we all had had enough of being mucked around.

There was no clear solution the answer lay in find the shortest way out of a very long problem. Sometimes the longest way can be the most effective way then again some might argue the long way is the wrong way.

Anything with the concept of length in it like the long way as opposed to the not long way suits every stream of conscious piece you could imagine. Making a long presentation of the facts no matter how relevant or irrelevant doesn’t matter when you are going about it the long way. That’s the whole point isn’t. The long way can either bore your readers to death or so confuse them that after a while they begin to think you are some sort of genius to have come up with whatever idea you are sprouting at the time. It all goes back to the old adage that bullshit baffles brains.

So I won’t go on for too long as I know you are all busy people with lives to live and families to care for and far be it from me to occupy your mind for too long.

So have a good day and I hope it isn’t a long one for you.

Word-High July: Timpi

july-2

The front door slams

We sit up in horror

Clothes in disarray

Quickly we rearrange

Desperate to not be caught

Guilt written on our faces

We think of control

Of hands across the chest.

Maybe tomorrow?
