Thursday photo prompt – Woodland #writephoto – Impending Danger

passage

The first ray of sunlight heralded the arrival of the creature’s all intent on having a voice in the future of the woodland.

The Long Legged One arrived and nodded a cursory greeting to the Short Armed One as they both made their way to the space they would occupy at opposite ends of the meeting place.

The secretive nature of their existence in the woodlands was under threat with noises being made by the Hairy Heads of intrusions into the woodlands by the Mechanical Ones against which no one had any defence.

In the face of impending doom the woodland creatures would need to make arrangements to move, as their habitat would soon disappear.

The meeting space filled as the sun grew stronger, a group of small three eyed bipeds shuffled across to their space, excusing themselves as they brushed past the Stick Ones who as always had set up and impenetrable barrier without considering the needs of the others.

There was a minor bit of push and shove as the creatures assembled and everyone found a spot from which they could observe proceedings.

Called to order by the Hairy Body they sat to attention as he gurgled and garbled his concerns for the future.

It was the Feathered Flock who reported the current state of affairs. There was cry for a resolution and the meeting quickly concluded the necessity to put an evacuation plan into action.

All creatures were to take up their homes and leave under cover of the night and re-locate to the gully of the Laughing Ones, as it was considered for the moment safe from the rolling monsters.

As they left to make their preparations in the distance the dull roar of the Mechanical Ones could be heard, ever drawing closer.

They would pack and help each other as they moved away from the impending danger.

#JusJoJan Daily Prompt – January 25th, 2018 – Prediction

jjj-2018

It was one of those days where nothing seemed to go right and invited by mates to the town fair seemed an innocent way to spend his Sunday.

They coaxed him into the fortuneteller’s booth and reluctantly he went in.

The old lady at the table folded her arms on top of the table and looked him in the eye.

“You’re pharked,” she said in her strong Irish accent, “there’s nothing but misery and hardship in store for ya.”

He gulped, it wasn’t what he expected. They sat in silence for a moment before she said, “Thet’ll be ten dollars and when you leave watch where ya step.”

He left the booth, ten dollars the poorer and sceptical about what he’d paid ten dollars for. But as he left he tripped in the doorway stubbing his toe, fell over a man passing by and landed in a large soft cowpat. He picked himself up and began cleaning himself down when his mates arrived with a plastic glass of beer, which once in his hand was knocked out by a boy carrying a large teddy bear.

So with himself covered in a mixture of cow poo and beer and began to wonder the truth of the old lady’s prediction.

Lyrical Fiction Friday Reveal: “Erase You” #lyricalfictionfriday

lyricalfictionfriday1

Today’s lyric prompt is:

I’m trying to erase you from my mind…you’re my religion and my belief…

There was more than one who asked what he thought his destiny to be.

At first he was puzzled as to why anyone would ask such a question.

Just to be me he would say, as that was enough for him.

But the woman who first loved him had other ideas.

She saw the good man, she saw his strengths, she craved his attention, if only he could perform in bed, do more around the house and earn more money.

She felt good being around him, socially he was a catch; people thought she had done well.

The last thing she wanted though was a man who had a mind of his own.

She set to work to mould him into a likeness not unlike her father

She suggested subtly at first where he could change his behaviours

A little more adventure in the bedroom, a little more attention to household chores, a little work after hours to enable her the luxuries she thought her entitlement.

She believed if she kept at him, humiliated him as often as she could then he would see the light, change into a likeness she craved him to be, one where she could manipulate his strings and give her what she wanted.

But he rebelled and she punished him, cut him off, cast him out created from the shell she’d made of him a social misfit.

But no matter how hard she tried to erase him from her mind he remained the one she couldn’t tame.

Where he spent his days in troubled isolation, unsure if he possessed any qualities a woman might entertain.

She wondered if she’d treated him better, would their lives have turned out different.

Where he was happy in his freedom, she languished through affairs and a sham of a marriage, always burning a candle in her heart for him.

Tale Weaver – #156 – 25th January – Body Language – Max

bonsalles_synchronize_paintpoemsblog1-1

Her body language

Said all the things she couldn’t.

Art work: © bonsallesart.wordpress.com (Used with Permission)

Text: © Vivian Zems (Used with Permission)

I’d been invited to the dinner party as it turned out to make up the numbers. Joan had asked a woman from her work who was new in town and wanted to have an even number of men and women so I was the ‘lucky’ even up one.

The woman in question was a small woman called Maxine who insisted from the first that I call her Max.

She explained that she was shy and not very social so calling her Max she argued lessened the formality of the greeting.

We did get along well, she was more than happy to chat to me and we exchanged our life stories but whenever anyone else came by to join in and chat she froze on the spot.

What I did notice was her liking to sit close. At first I thought she may have been hard of hearing but it wasn’t that, it was more her desire to be physically close.

She knew it too and for a moment or two there was an awkwardness about us both as she explained she didn’t have a great body space around people she knew and felt confident with.

Up close you became aware of her stunning beauty. Once relaxed her face displayed a flashing smile and sparkling eyes that drew you in.

As uncomfortable as I was at first it wasn’t long before I was soaking up the pleasure of being close to her. I saw her as no threat, but rather a delight to be with.

Later our host invited us to dance and when we did, tentatively at first, I felt her draw herself in against me, her warmth engulfing me, her body against mine, her head upon my shoulder and me feeling nothing like ever before.

When the music stopped she stepped back and said, “Thanks, that was nice.”

Then she took my hand and led me to where we had been sitting.

I am normally a shy man, I don’t go for public displays of affection but Max relaxed me and to be honest I couldn’t have cared less what anyone thought of me.

The next day Max and I met again.

100 Word Wednesday: Week 55 – First Look at the Ocean

100ww_w55

Maria lived on a sheep farm in the country and it was her first visit to the beach. At first glance the ocean was overwhelming in size and sound as the waves pounded down onto the rocks.

She loved the thrill of the sea spray hitting her face, the smell of the ocean wasn’t what she expected, in fact everything was more than she anticipated.

She stood watching the waves roll in and crash onto the rocks, the foam splashing onto the rocks and swirling around her feet.

This was a day to remember, the day she met the ocean.

In Other Words, renewal…

in-other-words1

It was hard to say when the moment came and she decided it was time.

She’d had enough of the abuse, the let downs, the constant sense of terror.

There was only one way out and for the first time it looked an inviting drop.

She didn’t notice the angel who came and sat beside her, who slipped his arm through hers and sat close keeping the winter chill from her.

As she stepped towards her abyss the angel whispered in her ear and she thought maybe renewal was possible, all she had to do was buy the bus ticket and her friend would be waiting.

#JusJoJan Daily Prompt – January 23rd, 2018 – Colour

jjj-2018

When Herbie Richmond was arrested the newspapers wrote him up as a colourful character in the racing industry.

It was a flattering term when you considered he was a race fixer and illegal bookmaker.

He’d nobbled many a horse and ruined many a potential trainer by having his ‘business associates’ get to the jockey or slip something into the horses feed.

The community were as one keen to know what the law would do with a character such as Herbie Richmond and followed his case each day the court case was in session.

Herbie pleaded he was only a humble business man with a passion for horse racing, was it his fault if favourites didn’t win or jockeys fell off their mounts.

Sadly for Herbie his colourful lifestyle came to an end and he was sentenced to years in prison where he became a colourless character.

Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers – The Museum Visit.

photo-20180122154618182

Image : Fandango

As the tour group reached the end of their museum visit the guide stopped at the final exhibit.

“This exhibit is from the early 21st Century and is an example of the primitive lifestyle of the time. The existing species were a dirty and disgusting race of peoples beset with greed and self-satisfaction.

At various intervals around their towns and villages troughs such as these would be situated whereupon when thirst over came them they would get on all fours and drink by putting their heads into the trough.”

A small creature with no neck and a third eye asked if they had animals of any kind.

“No explained the guide, and if they did they ate them leaving no record of life other than their own.”

At that the group nodded and grunted their approval of the answer and muttered among themselves how lucky they were to live in a world where there was plenty for all and the humanoids a perfect labour force.

Wordle #184 – Albert Doorstop.

week-174

This week’s words: Behind Leaf Flail Sent to Windglum (to ostracize a person, to ignore them) Kiss Abysmal Comet Native Harlequin Growl Attempt Dampen

When a soul passed from its body it wasn’t unusual for that soul to be fearful of what lay ahead.

It was the job of Wayne and Greg, angels from up and down stairs to settle any given soul and point them in the direction of their eternity.

Some souls have been known to attempt to hide behind any leaf or tree that might be in their vicinity. Its pointless really as no matter how hard you try in the next life there is no way you can be sent to Windglum, you can apply it to yourself but the next life being a somewhat long existence ensures that in either the upstairs or downstairs departments there is always something to do and or avoid if you so desire.

Wayne and Greg watched as the abysmal life of Albert Doorstop came to a sudden end. Albert was a man who believed the aliens would be on the next comet to come near to the earth and had repeatedly told his friends in the town of Harlequin to expect them any day. He believed the native population were descendants of previous alien visits and he would growl at anyone who offered a dissenting voice.

Albert had been a man for whom contact with others had never been a satisfactory experience. Thinking he was a man of the world, if not the universe, he attempted a romantic assignation with Mary Botswain who ran the lolly shop. His attempt at a kiss resulted in a severe face slapping from Mary who was having no truck with one such as Albert Doorstop.

She had seriously dampened his idea of romance and that evening in a bizarre attempt at cleansing himself, mind and body, flailed himself with a medieval whip he designed from old pieces of string and bottle tops.

Wayne and Greg looked at the pathetic specimen and knew in cases such as this, it was as much a toss of the coin as anything else to determine a souls eternity.

“Heads,” called Greg and the abysmal Albert watched in anticipation.

#JusJoJan Daily Prompt – January 22nd, 2018 – Liberty

jjj-2018

Liberty

Liberty Bates lived three doors up from me. She was a simple girl with simple tastes. She went to school like every one else but never seemed interested in anything school had to offer her.

Her mum and dad worried about their daughter and as they aged and Liberty grew their worry increased, as Liberty seemed more than happy to hang around the house and read. She did love to read and devoured every book on the library shelves.

After her parents died Liberty stayed on in the house, she had nowhere else to go.

It was about this time computers arrived.

At first like everyone else Liberty was intrigued by them and what they could do.

It wasn’t long before Liberty discovered an ability that had lay dormant within her.

She understood computers and soon found herself in demand within the neighbourhood answering questions and fixing whatever issues arose among her neighbours.

Such was her knowledge she was employed by a large accounting firm in the city and went happily to work each day.

Liberty Bates discovered what it was like to be needed and enjoyed the fact that unlike most people she did know the difference between her ROM and her RAM.
