Poetry Prompt 51 – Loss of sense – Sight

write-a-poem-which-explores-how-it-might-feel-to-lose-one-of-your-senses

I waited years

Then this.

With tubes into and out of me

My head wrapped like a mummy

So much anger

Mystery

Why me?

I hear them say

Blind

I hear them say

Bad luck.

My mind retains you

The image you left me with

The reason I wake each day

Despite the darkness

Despite the hopelessness

There is still within me

Your singular beauty.

I am accept not seeing a sunrise

Nor sunset, nor spring blossoms

No ocean view, no back fence view.

I wail and rip myself inside

Now you have disappeared.

Your voice I hear

Through the walls of my despair,

But it’s as if only half of you is here.

There will be no respite,

So where once I craved you

Fed off every word

Your touch is now my comfort.

  2. Michael I love this, the torment of losing sight, holding on to what you have seen. A wonderful write my friend.
