Ageing
Stuck
Time lapse.
Brain in denial
Body protesting
Aches and pains
Everyday a new spot.
Face facts
‘You ain’t as young as you used to be’.
Once I could run for miles
Climb every neighbourhood tree
Build forts and cubby houses
Play games, sports, competitive.
I could compete with other lovers
Hold my own as they say.
Now the ravages of time
Experience, trauma,
Marriage, failures
Successes, more than the former.
Children grown and prosperous.
My life my own.
Enigmatic
Creative
Resourceful
Loyal
Patient
Life is laughter
Laughter is joy
It’s who I am.
I was once told I sat somewhere on the autism spectrum
Are you the one standing beside me?

The portrait used above comes from a collection done last year. Here is a link to see the whole thing:

Getting older is not for sissy’s that’s for sure. Lol Good d’verse Michael about something we all lament….
Thanks Jackie, something we can’t do a lot about other than keep our minds active. Thanks again for reading.
Very, very well written, dear friend!
The soul and passion from the within are really felt here.
God bless 🙂

Thank you so much Amanda I appreciate your reading and your comment.
I’m glad you have found laughter..it being the best medicine…almost sounds like a singles’ listing at first until I read further…Nice.
Ahhh..thank you Katy, I took you on a little journey then and that is good. Thank you for reading and for your comment.
life is joy…when we let it be…
and that last stanza has some pretty good qualities in there…
life teaches us much, we have our bumps and bruises
from that learning, but…smiles…
Thanks Brian, appreciate you reading and as always your comment. Have a good Easter.

Sounds like a life lived . . . and life and laughter, it doesn’t get much better than that.
No it doesn’t. Thank you for reading and your comment.
if laughter is present, then age stays away
So very true kamana, thank you for your comment.
oh it’s good if we keep our positive spirit despite the bumps and bruises that life surely gives us – and focus on the joy and good things… cool self portrait…and even a double one with the sketch which is way cool as well… did you do it yourself?
No the sketch is one of ten that were done by a student last year and presented to me when I retired last year. Thanks Claudia for reading and your comment.
I seem to go in circles, sometimes I am satisfied that I am this age, who I am, then I turn and don’t. I think I’m normal…
You are Jenny, very normal in that thought, we all accept who we are we don’t necessarily like what we see.
i call this ageing gracefully with wisdom….great inspiring lines..
Thank you so much Sumana. I appreciate your comment.
This is so easy to relate to. One of the gifts of aging, I’m finding, is the freedom to just be who we are. No more assortment of personas to adapt to each occasion. Did you do that great sketch?
Thanks Victoria. The sketch is one of about ten done last year by a student of mine. I can write a sentence but not draw a straight line.
Here is a link to see the whole lot…..
We’re all somewhere on the autism spectrum, I suspect… Who is to define normal, anyway? I like the way you start with the frailty of the body but then end on the strength of mind which obviously characterises you.
Thank you so much Marina. It is true about the autism reference, my ex wife suspects I am, my kids find it a great joke and will say ‘dad you have an excuse for being you’ but they love me anyhow….lol…..the comment about us all fitting along the spectrum came from a good friend and psychologist.
Oh – Hi Michael – It’s me RoSy – standing next to you.
Not sure how I ended up here – but – nice to see you. 😉
Ahh so it is. Knew you wouldn’t be far away.
Such insights, so beautifully put! Bravo!
Dear CC, thank you for your comment, please call again.
A lovely glumps of aging with joy!
Thanks so much Bryan
Oops…that was supposed to be ‘glimpse’…not sure what a ‘glumps’ is…
The real growing pains seem to be after the living is done.
Thanks so much Kim.
