As my soul winged its way upwards, at least I was hoping it was upwards, you lose all sense of direction when you are thinking you are in pursuit of salvation of any kind. I couldn’t help but reflect on the previous twenty minutes of my life. The avenue had been shattered by the bellowing of the banshee who called herself my wife. Gone were the lyrical tones she had employed so often in the neighbourhood to woo and to cajole all about her to her own point of view.
She had stood on the stairwell, the rolling pin in her hand banishing it about as she warned me of the consequences of my continual use of her credit card.
It had never been a problem before, as she had not discovered my actions and what I thought was just her letting off steam as she did on the regular basis turned out to be a tad more serious than I anticipated. What day would go by without that now familiar furrow forming across her brow as she found something new within the house to exercise her ire which one could see salivating over the prospect of making my life as crap as possible.
The whole issue was over my purchase of the twenty-five rolls of aluminium foil. I had heard from my usual voices and informants that the aliens were coming and in my desire to protect my family, the foil was to make alien helmets which we all know would be needed to stop the aliens from frying our brains. Her argument, which was, as always completely disjointed, and a whole lot of whohah as far as I was concerned suddenly took an unexpected turn.
These clouds I am moving through seem to be getting warmer, maybe I am not going up as I thought.

I love this Michael it is so animated and easy to visualize and the aluminium foil alien hats just cracks me up!
Thanks Yves, it was a fun one to write. Thanks for the prompt.
It is always my pleasure and always a joy to see what you’ve written. Thank you so much for participating
It’s one I look forward to.
XD yay
Foil helmets… you are so inventive my dear friend. Used the words excellently for the prompt.
Thanks Jenny, it was fun.
You need to put the alfoil in your shoes too, to avoid the electrical impulses the alien’s shoot through the floor. Good story Michael. Personally, I wouldn’t be giving any of the foil to the little woman. I’m sure she could take care of herself with that rolling pin 😉
Hahaha, I’m sure the aliens would soon know to steer well clear of her, foil or no foil. Thanks Lyn, great comment.
Lovely Michael…I loved the humor of this story…I had to giggle! I advise your character to go read my piece so he can make the proper choice when he gets to the stairway to heaven 😉
Thanks Georgia, I shall send him over.
🙂
Very good, lovely imagery there! Gave me a giggle – tin foil hats a classic 🙂
Thanks Charlie, there are people who believe in the foil hats.
That was fun! Such characters you’ve captured. You used the words quite cleverly Michael. Well done. It made me laugh. 🙂
Thank you Jackie I made you laugh? I am happy to have achieved that, it was a fun write.
A very cleaver tale. Love the build up to the plot end. Very well done Michael.
Thanks Kim happy you enjoyed it.

I threw an end of the world party back in Dec 2012 (when the world was supposed to end – one of the many times) & I had aluminum foil hats for everyone.
What great minds we must have RoSy. Thankfully you are still with us. Thanks so much for the comment and for enjoying my post. I am always happy when a reader connects as you have done.

Bwahahaha I’ll take a foil hat or 2 – my wonderful family are Trekkies, Dr Who addicts and lovers of anything Sci Fi. *snorks*
