Poem 101 – Write Me a Letter

Write me a letter, one from you

In which you paint me pictures

In your words, of you and love,

Of places far away, where dreams come true.

Make your words sing to me

Lullabies long forgotten.

Make your words dance for me

Of stars that shine and glimmer

Eternally, like the ones in your heart.

I want to smell the roses you grow,

Run my hands through fields of grass

The ones you see, the places you walk.

It’s only through your words that I come alive

For I have been stone far too long

Now I feel an awakening, a stirring inside

From nothing to hope to something,

That from beyond my horizon,

Your words will float my way

Taking me with you, I can ask no more.

Wonderful poem Michael. It’s amazing how words can convey so much, whether in a poem or a letter, or even an email. Words are powerful things.

There is nothing more special than a letter full of words that are really meant is there? My grandmother was a great advocate of letter writing and when I was an adolescent and at my very lowest ebb ever, she wasn’t able to talk to me directly about the problems but we used to write each other letters. They weren’t deep and meaningful just passing the time of day, but I treasured every one. They told me that she loved me in spite of how I felt about myself. God I miss her! x

    • They are treasures to hold on to Pooky. My mother died over thirty years ago and the week before she died she wrote my a letter. My mother had the ability to write you a page and manage to tell you nothing. But I carried that letter round with me for many years until it fell apart on me. I wish now I had taken better care of it. Letters, mailed ones are rare now days.

  3. Michael I truly love this, this would have to be on my current favourites of yours. Writing a letter by hand – the art has been lost sadly, how beautiful and so much more connected are we when we spend the time to do. For I have been stone far too long ~ a poignant line. Excellent my friend ~ smiles.

  4. Beautifully written. Lots of passion.
