What Scares You
Unplaceable creaks in the night
Unfathomable sounds
You hear as you lay down to sleep.
What causes it?
Where is it?
Will it get me?
Of course not silly.
Why?

I enjoyed your words – is trifecta a form (I thought it was a kind of bet, that just shows my misspent youth I guess!)
Hi Pooky, yes I with you on that. But this one is a fun one.
It is a bet. We’re just playing with the words. 🙂
Ah I see! I like it 🙂
Indeed why.. 😉
Thanks Bjorn, yes good sir, why indeed??
sometimes I’m convinced that it’s only when our minds are quiet, that we hear the most. Esp what scares us.
Good piece
Thanks Kir, that’s a great comment.
You always have to check that the creak you heard at night isn’t a serial killer coming to get you. Better safe than sorry! Good one!
hahaha well one hopes that it isn’t your neighbourhood serial killer Joe, thanks for visiting and reading, please call again.
Wonderful…now I’m wondering why…reminds me of a few nights ago when I woke up convinced someone was walking heavily up the inside stairs in my townhouse only to realise it was actually my own heartbeat in my ear, resting against the pillow…so easy to spook oneself in he dark of the night, LOL!! 🙂 🙂
Thanks Helen, yes it is easy to spook yourself, I am now sleeping in my parents old room but thankfully I fully renovated it first so it doesn’t look like their room.
🙂 A wise renovation indeed, methinks!! 🙂 🙂
Yes Helen, they’d never recognise it now.
Oh those creaks and thumps in the night…are usually my cats. I knew I had pets for a reason. Good writing!
Hello Renee thanks for reading my post and your kind comment.
Oh – spooky happenings with certain noises, creeks, & squeaks.
As a kid – I was afraid of El Cucuy.

Hi RoSy, yes there are some things that can freak us easy, don’t know about El Cucuy??
why you ask, hmm the silence of the night brings forth many a strange noise, most of them in our imaginings.
Thanks Jen, 33 words about my length….
Oh I’m sure you have more than 33 words in you 😉
I may have but its always a struggle when you are a man of few words.
It’s a good thing I didn’t read this 10 years ago as I would most likely not be able to sleep…not that I can anyways. Creepy! 🙂
And who’d have thought I could write anything to scare you Cubby?? Thanks for reading.
I’m actually quite a scaredy cat hehe. 🙂
Really? You are the second person lately who has told me they scare easily. Though thunder storms freak me!!
My original piece was something allong the lines of this. So glad to know I’m not the ONLY one who is scared of the dark 😛
There are many of us…lol…Thanks for your comment. please call again.
This makes me think of when I was in elementary school, and even junior high. We lived in a fairly old house that made lots of noises. I would swear the creaks and cracks were getting closer to my room- I even heard footsteps on carpet. I would have myself so terrified that I’d break into a sweat and was too scared to scream. I still have nightlights 🙂
Hello Janna, yes old houses can do that, my kids reckon there is a ghost in this house but i have never seen nor felt anything.
That last word is the most chilling one!
Thanks Draug, I appreciate you reading my post.
Yikes. I hope I can sleep tonight after reading these. 🙂 I’ve got both cats and kids, so I can generally explain away the bumps in the night. But. . .
Thanks for linking up. Don’t forget to vote.
Thanks for you comment.
It’s amazing all the things you can hear in the dark. What a great take on the prompt! 🙂
Thank you Suzanne
Well done 🙂
Thank you Melanie
Love the progress from what to where to will it get me!
Thanks Kymm, I appreciate you reading my work.
Oh Summers! You’ve chosen something that really scares me. I rarely get scared but when I do it’s just when I just lay down to sleep. Maybe it’s because we are at our most vulnerable, then. Excellent job!
Thanks Linda, yes I agree it is that time, or when you wake at 2am and start to imagine things in your room.
