Twittering Tale #57 – 7 November 2017

It was the saddle from hell.
Bum sore and thigh rash,
no matter how you adjusted it
It was the maker of misery.
Assigned it happily to the dump. (141 characters)

FFfAW Challenge-Week of 11-07-2017 – Norbet and Noreen.

photo-20171106154637822

Photo prompt: Enisa

From the sky, it appeared the perfect place to land. It was elevated and would give them an ideal spot from which to launch their take over.

Norbert led the way and was ever keen to get started as that meant more time with the beautiful Noreen whom he was keen to get to know sooner rather than later. After all, once they had control, it was up to them to populate the place and take advantage of the rich resources they knew lay beneath the earth. As they went into their descent, Norbert couldn’t help but marvel at the tell-tale signs of lust building within his body.

Then disaster struck. Their magnetic bodies hit the containers, triggered off a series of reactions and Norbert and Noreen froze in an electric shower of sparks to become a curious exhibit in a travelling circus that proved recycled metal could be turned into interesting and worthwhile shapes.

Wordle #177 – Wayne’s Contemplation.

download2

This week’s words: devour self-possessed Exhaust  chaste [abstaining from extramarital, or from all, sexual intercourse|not having any sexual nature or intention|without unnecessary ornamentation; simple or restrained] dowry [property or money brought by a bride to her husband on their marriage] Pollen white sweet clover Arc  the conventional position Animate Fawn sprout

Hell was not the place where you’d say there was anything resembling a quiet day. Most times it was a very animated place, the thought of ever-lasting torment was not something that went down well with most of the inhabitants.

They were all there for a reason and Wayne, the Devil’s representative, knew full well the reasons were not something most of them were ever wanting to broadcast. Chasity was not something any of them practised, and so the word chaste was often one they raised their eyebrows at, or if they did, in fact, have eyebrows, they might well have raised them. But they did manage to share the odd joke such as none of them were there because they practised ‘the conventional position’, in most things if the truth be known.

When you are in hell, you become more self-possessed than ever. You become very vigilant of red-hot fires sprouting up when you least suspect them. Of course, this was all explained in the orientation process, so nothing came as a surprise.

As has been pointed out the thing that makes hell a hell is the predictability of the place. Each Wednesday is a walk in the fields day. Most take it as a respite from the ever-present stench of exhaust fumes from the fires forever burning. Out in the fields, you get to walk among the sweet white clover and feel the pollen in the air as it arcs over you giving you a completely false sense of complacency.

Just as you are thinking this is fun you are devoured by the smoke of the fires, the sulphuric aroma cleansing your nasal passages of any remaining pleasantness.

Your world goes from the green of the clover to the fawn of eternity.

You collapse into a fit of deserved depression where upon you are reminded of the reasons for your being where you are. In your mind, there is listed for you the dowry of your life, the gifts you have brought with you that will remain with you as you contemplate your version of the everlasting.

Wayne sat on top of the hill overlooking Hell and marvelled at the master plan of making hell the place it was. He was glad he was one of the appointed ones and looking at his devilish watch he noted it was afternoon tea time and hurried off to meet his long-time friend Greg, the Angel from upstairs.

IMG_0455

There’s a storm coming this afternoon and I took this photo across my side fence with the Jacaranda tree in full bloom against the darkening sky. It’s that time of the year around here with the Jacaranda blooming everywhere.

Sunday Writing Prompt #227 “Letters to Characters” Miss Marble to Albus Dumbledore

HogwartsCastle_WB_F4_HogwartsThroughTheTrees_Illust_100615_Land

The Task: write a letter to a character from a book or movie as if they were a real person.

Miss Amelia Marble

46 Grimace Street

Professor Albus Dumbledore,

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

My Dear Albus,

I’m so pleased to hear that all the troubles you have been having have been resolved and life is back to normal at Hogwarts.

It is with great pleasure that I accept your invitation to once again address the annual Witches and Wizards Spells and Potions Open Day.

I am so pleased to be asked for as you know I have been a great fan and supporter of Hogwarts School.

This year I shall speak on ‘Living Successfully in a Muggle World’.

As you know Grimace Street is a wonderful place to live and even though I do vet the people who come to live here every so often there is one or two troublesome Muggles give me cause for concern. Hence, I believe in the old saying: “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.” For as we have all learned over the years, what’s on the outside may not be the same on the inside. Sadly too many of them are cursed, I’m sure that is what it is, with greed and therefore so very self-centred.

I do have one request as far as accommodation goes. I would like very much not to be housed in Slytherin House as I found them to be a tiresome lot of tricksters. Finding my shower cubicle, a snake pit, is not the way any witch would like to end her day and finding slimy slithering things in my bed, frankly does not go well for restful repose.

Neither would I like to be in Gryffindor as I find most of the young ones are believing they are future Harry Potters or Hermione Grangers. Such pretentious children do get wearisome. I thought maybe Ravenclaw would be more suitable, they are very stayed and laid back folk, with little reason to be above themselves as others seem to be.

So, my Dear Albus, I shall be on the 9.24.5 from Central leaving that beautiful Platform 9 3/4. Looking forward to seeing you on the 33rd.

Yours in all things magical

Amelia Marble, Miss.

Saturday Mix – Same Same But Different, 4 November 2017

Same Same But Different
Your ‘Same Same But Different’ task is to take the five challenge words and NOT use them in your writing. That’s right, you need to dig out your thesaurus and find a synonym for each word instead.

Your words are:

  1. odd
  2. fight
  3. start
  4. weak
  5. tired

It was a most peculiar day, surrounded by the strangest of people.

At first, I was fearful of some confrontation, as there was a rumour of a past brawl,

But from the beginning, a peace pervaded the room and the whole evening kicked off satisfactorily.

A feeble attempt was made to reconcile but was met with an even more puny response

So, in the end, fatigued by the whole trauma of the meeting we were all too exhausted to be bothered.

So, home we went, glad to be rid of such eccentric types

Thankful all and any struggle of a physical nature had been avoided.

A new week was about to commence, we were glad of that,

Our ailing need to compensate put momentarily behind us

Not wishing to burn ourselves out, we buried ourselves in work.

SoCS Nov. 4/17 – shortcut/cut short

socs-badge-2017-18

“What is that?” she asked.

“A shortcut to my heart.”

“Is it really?”

“Yes. Are you game?”

“Not sure, is it a rocky shortcut or a smooth shortcut?”

“Depends on you, but rest assured I will be there to catch you.”

“Am I in danger do you think?”

“Only if you hesitate.”

“If I do hesitate it will be all cut short won’t it?”

“Sadly yes. No coming back from there.”

“Sorry.”

“Guess that’s it?”

“Afraid so.”

“So much for that short cut, cut short in the prime of his life.”

“It’s how the cookie crumbles sometimes.”

Music Prompt #15: “Ahead by A Century” by the Tragically Hip #amwriting #musicchallenge #music

Based on the song: “Ahead by a Century” by Tragically Hip

“This is it isn’t,” she said, putting her coffee cup back on the table. There was a sound of resignation in her voice as she said those words.

We were sitting in a café above the beach, watching the surf roll in, the passers-by hurry to destinations that were obviously important to them.

“Is there anything important anymore?” I asked.

“I don’t think so,” she replied.

“This is our life you know. One day after another same shit different day and we accept it don’t we. We never say this is enough, let’s get out of here.”

“Cause we’re stuck that’s why. Jobs, rent, family they all have some sway in what we can and can’t do.”

“But I hate my job. I despise where I live. You are the only sane thing in my life.”

“Then why don’t you change?”

“Can’t. I know I whinge all the time about what I do and where I live but to change is too hard. Finding another place is almost impossible, another job that pays like the one I have is not likely so I know I’m in a rut.”

“But you could take a break.”

“What for? Where would I go? I’d need you to come too as I hate going places on my own.”

“You could go home?”

“Home! No way and have my mother telling me what a failure and disappointment I’ve turned out to be. That ain’t happening.”

“Come and stay with me.”

“What? No, it would ruin a perfect friendship, and you’d be sick of me by the end of the first day. I’m a sloth you know.”

“So, your stuck eh?”

“Afraid so.”

“Another coffee?”

“Thanks. Oh, and could I have a fairy cake as well, I’ll consider it an indulgence.”

“Well, we did say this is your like, and a fairy cake is a change. Might have one myself.”

“We are daring aren’t we.”
