Weekend Writing Prompt #29 – Random

after-the-storm-1

Word Prompt using 75 words:

 Moonstruck – Ragtag – Wanderlust

Wanderlust kept itching the inside of his ragtag head. He had an urge to travel once again. He was moonstruck over the girl in the pink pyjamas who kept popping up in his dreams.

At random times, she’d appear and always the same message, “Come visit me.”

He googled her home country and saw it was located in a place he wanted to visit. The cost was doable but his miserable bank balance said otherwise.

Thursday photo prompt – Haven – #writephoto

january-hol-2016-004-2

They said when the time came I would know what to do.

It was always going to be a matter of gathering my where withal and making the necessary break.

The January sky forebodes the coming heat of the day. But there could be no time to contemplate the beauty of the morning even though I did find myself from time to time lost within it.

Grabbing my backpack, I headed out the door. The air was already hot, the day was going to be a scorcher, and I knew progress would be laboured. I knew I had to get as far as I could before the heat of the day set in.

Around me my neighbourhood slept, the ominous nature of the day had not allowed their slumbers to be interrupted and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for them when they woke and realised it was too late to flee.

As I walked on behind me, I could hear the tell-tale signs of the trouble that was coming. The rumbling in the distance was faint but gathering momentum the further I trudged.

I needed to reach the meeting point where I knew the others would be waiting.

Armed with our respective boarding passes, we would be the fortunate ones to escape to the Haven and avoid the impending end of the world.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 13

work-backwards

When I think back on a career that lasted 39 years the one thing I would like to be remembered for is the opportunity I gave my students to discover learning through a variety of methods.

I never believed learning was only in text books but rather it came from experience and I offered my students a lot of those. When I lived in the country, I took students on a tour of the southern part of our state and for many coming from a small country town it was their first experience of a world outside their own.

Later I became a drama teacher and understood the great potential the arts had in shaping every student’s outlook on life. Drama was instrumental in the lives of so many of my students as it offered them a discipline that was different to that of their Maths, English and Science classes.

Many of them thrived in the drama environment, and they allowed me to facilitate their learning through the experience of dramatic practice. I wrote a few musicals and turned them into meaningful productions that impacted greatly on the students involved.

Very few ever went on to become actors etc. but many of them were grateful for the opportunity to learn about themselves, grow in confidence, explore their individual capabilities and take what they learned with them through life.

So, that part of my life is over, and what I achieved I am comfortable with.

With my family that is on-going. I’d like to think my children are who they are because I encouraged them, supported them in their life decisions and I have always tried to be there for them.

What is left to do is to work on my grand parenting skills, as I don’t think I’m as good a grandfather as I was a dad…but like everything in life, such things can be viewed as a work in progress.

November 16: Flash Fiction Challenge – Mesh Fly Screens

working-template-for-ff-challenges5

November 16, 2017 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) use the word mesh in a story. Mesh is both an object and a verb, which you can freely explore. You can play with its sound, too. Go where the prompt leads.

When we first went to visit the town, we were to spend the next eight years in the hotel we stayed in during the height of the summer had no mesh fly screens. The Manager showed us to our room and then proceeded to catch the flies finding our open door too good to resist.

With her fingers, she hunted them down, squeezed them and threw them out the door as more happily invaded us.

It was one of the few down sides to living in the country, mesh screens were a rare sight, but myriads of flies were common.

#MarquessaChallenge – “Age Ain’t A Factor” #fictionfriday #music #prompt #lyricalfictionchallenge

add-subheading

“…I swear you get better looking with every year…your sexual peak, your full figure physique…”

I was towelling off in the shower when she came in and stood watching me dry those places that were getting further and further away to dry.

She liked to watch me coming from the shower, there was something in my awkwardness that thrilled her, and she’d often take the towel and dry my back.

I think there was something about my full figure that excited her over the eight stone ‘stick insect’ I was when we first met.

Needless to say, these encounters were never declined by me, as she’d insist on making sure my bits were not only clean but dry.

Her acceptance of me was the most arousing aspect of our wonderful relationship as I was very much aware of my spreading girth. But she’d always make me laugh by remarking the girth she noticed was always ready and waiting.

I learned she responded to my being stimulated by her, for her it was the greatest compliment that I found her advances pleasurable and desired.

For me, she was always my beautiful girl.

“Well you found me, and I don’t know you so piss off and go sit somewhere else. I’ve been on this seat the past thirty years and I ain’t giving it up for you or anyone else.”

“I can see why it’s a very comfy seat.”

“Of course, it is, well worn, over the years its shaped to fit me, just me, don’t worry I’ve had plenty try to get the better of me and take it from me by they learn quickly you don’t mess around with Sparra.”

“Just who are you?

“No, I guess not. It’s not a very popular name these days. Such a shame. It’s held me in good stead you know.”

“So, what do you want from me?”

“Just your soul Sparra. It’s time for you.”

“My time?” Like death?”

“Yes, call it death, call it a transition, whatever, it’s all the same. Time for you to shuffle off.”

“Are you saying, Arnold, that you are death?”

“Yes, so come along we have a way to go.”

“Oh…so will there be a seat for me there?”

“I think some arrangement can be made.”

“I hope so, I’m used to a good seat..”

Writespiration #141 52 Weeks in 52 Words Week 46 – Launch

writespiration-2017

After months of anticipation, her book launch arrived. She gathered enough supplies for wine and cheese, packed her book boxes and headed off.

The crowds buzzed around her as she happily signed each purchased copy. Exhausted she signed the last copy. A man approached and asked why she had stolen his story.

100 Word Wednesday: Week 45 – Untainted

100ww_w46

When they discovered the old couples dining room, they stood aghast.

There before them lay their last supper.

The mains were untouched with only a bite or two taken from the bagels.

The glasses were stained from the wine left standing in the glasses.

It had taken the searchers several days to find the dining room. The old couple lived in a sprawling mansion where the corridors and passages were warren-like.

So, reclusive were they the alarm had not been raised for some months. Then the search, then discovery. They scratched their heads as the food had not tainted.

In Other Words, turkey…

in-other-words1

The gobble within the turkey yard was loud and urgent.

There were rumours and amongst the turkey’s rumours spread and gained credence by the hour.

Each bird knew the feeling of eyes on the back of its neck.

They took extra-ordinary measures to look inconspicuous.

Pretending not to see the farmer and the glint from his axe they gobbled as if there was no tomorrow.
