When she thought about it surfacing was the only alternative.
Apart from the bracingly cold water
The sapping of her breath
There was only one way, and that was up.
Broadsided by recent revelation
News a problem existed.
Momentarily there was a loss of hope
It was a relief if only for a second or two.
The crap in her life weighed heavily
She forgot about the boy who loved and cherished her
Waiting silently in the wings
His arms and lips there for her.
Soaked through she battled upward
Every lie and pretend truth
Deceptive and unforgiving
Designed to control and direct her life
All gathered round her as her mind raced to a solution.
She broke through
Breathed in once again.
She saw him standing in the distance
The casual boy, awaiting the struggling girl
Keen to take her away,
To care and nurture the love they shared.
So, simple she thought,
I’m a girl loving a boy,
Reaching out he took her hand
Pulled her free.
Placing his arms around her
He led her away.

Captivating story!
Thanks so much Reena. Have a good day.
There’s something very beautiful about this, and captivating.
Thanks Mary I appreciate you stopping by.
Wow 😀
I don’t know how you’ve done it – but you’ve captured an essence, a feeling, a sense of the drowning and crush, without being literal – and of the light – which even without knowing how that could manifest, pulls – so the break away – and then seeing where the light source is ….
hmm …. that probably doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but as I read this piece, and read it again, I just feel like you’ve captured, how can I phrase this – to steal Milan Kundera’s book title – “the unbearable lightness of being” – from the dark and the shock to a discovery of hope and light – and there is just a rocking soothing easy and grace about this piece Michael –
okay, I’ll just have to stop – because this is kind of inexpressible on my part –
thanks for playing the Sunday writing prompt and I hope you have a wonderful week 🙂
Thanks Pat I guess what you are saying is you liked this effort 😊. It was quite a challenge.
yeah, that sums it up – I liked it – but I can’t explain how and why – what you’ve captured ….. it was/is a toughie this time, but people have done some very interesting things – much like yourself 🙂
Oh, I like this. That couplet :
So, simple she thought,
I’m a girl loving a boy,
So simple in itself, and somehow says so much.
Thanks so much Sarah glad you found it so.
Oh I love a happy ending 🙂
Thanks jael so do I
🙂
