Its five thirty and the day looms ahead. Summer in Australia is about days like this, one’s we call stinking hot. The prospect of 42C/107F is not something I look forward to. Already the day is challenging in anticipation of the searing heat, enough to feel your skin being slapped over and over. The plants are all closed, the leaves protecting themselves from loss of moisture, the birds usually so boisterous in the mornings are quiet now. The sunrise and the penetrating rays herald the days expected forecast. So now the waiting begins. We have faith in the weather man because he has forecast a cool change in the evening. So we will wait, close up the house, pray the air con works all day and await that evening sound of the cooling breeze rushing to us from the south.
a moments coolness
expectations of the dawn
tiring in the heat

42c! A cool breeze sounds much needed!
Cool breeze? What’s a cool breeze 🙂 We haven’t had one in a while, have we Michael.
No but we have to live in hope..don’t we…
Maybe tonight one will come….I wait in expectation..
Being in the middle of winter here in Canada and not having seen the sun in what seems to be weeks, I’m waiting for the seasons to change, but 42c is crazy hot. Stay cool, Michael.
We are doing our best Olga, thanks for stopping by…..I haven’t melted away yet…
It sure is going to be a stinker today. It has to end sooner or later
Cool change this afternoon/evening Lyn, be much more pleasant tomorrow.
Thank the Lord for that 🙂
The last sentence of your haibun is my favorite.
Thank you so much..
Since I am in the middle of winter too, I will happily exchange places with you 🙂
But good to wait for that moment’s coolness ~ And liking your photo very much ~
Thanks Grace its one of those tough summers days we have every so often..most of the time its very pleasant…
Excellent job hosting; excellent haibun — I can feel the heat even as we have a nor’easter storm.
Hope you get cool breeze and rain. Gladly share both.
Thank you so much….cooler days are coming, they have to…..if not I’ll be living in a desert.
Climate change . . . . let’s hope it doesn’t bring you a desert.
I wish cool breezes for you! Wonderful haiku at the end of this hot haibun. I hate extreme heat and prefer snow. I hope the climate truly isn’t changing.
This is summer in Australia at least where I live at any rate…most days are fine but we do get these temp extremes more so now days than in previous years…..
I can sense that heat turning the world a silent one, much like when it’s really cold. The waiting inside I know.
I think I have heard “stinking hot” used to describe similar weather in the central part of the US. At least there are air conditioners today, if they are working.
Thank fully mine is working ok..so far…
Waiting for a breeze – if only I could send you some of ours! Maybe you could send us a little sunshine back in return.
I wish..though with luck a cool breeze will start blowing soon…
Waiting for the cool….that breathing space. So well written. We were in Australia in November – our first time. And the weather was glorious. I was surprised and annoyed by the flies though….but small price to pay for the beauty of the land. We especially enjoyed our day hiking in the Blue Mountains and the day we did the Cliffs Walk around Sydney…ending by taking the ferry to Manly Bay and eating at a small, very delicious restaurant right on the beach itself. So very very glad we got to experience Australia and New Zealand too!
The heat radiates from the photograph alone and the haibun wonderfully shows how all the world around you is trying to protect itself while waiting for that cooler breeze. I hope it feels a bit fresher today :o)
Thank you but it is so much better today. Some heavy rain overnight much cooler enough to get you smiling…😁
Wonderful, enjoy the freshness! :o)
Ahhh…being in the south USA….I can feel this, Michael. It made me sweat! So telling….when a poem, etc. can make you have a physical reaction, you know you have written a ‘getcha’. LOL! Today (and the last two weeks, in the Middle Of January!!! we have hit 75 degrees F. That is lunatic! What is happening to the world? Climate change indeed!
It’s summer and we have hot days but it’s the number of hot days and hot nights that suggest climate change. Glad my piece gotcha..lol😀
Oh, I know that feeling, Michael, though lately our waiting has been for precipitation and, wow, has it come. Feet of snow in one place I call home, floods in the other. I hope that you did get that breeze. Thanks so much for hosting.
