Haibun Thinking – December 23rd 2014

It was that moment when I was standing on the edge that I began to think about the universe and my place in it. I reflected for some time before arriving at the place I am in now.

Tonight as I look up into the heavens and contemplate the massive universe we live in I realise how small and insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things, whatever that might be.

I remembered travelling to the east one year, during a winter storm, with snow blizzarding around me and me thinking I may have to stop but if I do will I be buried and not be able to find my way out.

None of that happened as it turned out.

But it may me think about how lucky I am to live where I do.

As I stand under the stars on this warm summers night, the myriad of stars twinkling at inestimable distances from earth I see a star shoot across the heavens, it only takes a few seconds, but a tiny moment of wonder for me.

The universe is indeed a wonder. Something beautiful. Thank you, and I hope you have great New Year

  2. Eleni says:

Nature is indeed a great teacher! I am always in awe of the ‘words’ it has to offer.

  4. Bastet says:

It’s such a wonderful thing to be moved by the stars … lovely haibun Michael.

  5. mandy says:

This was wonderful to read, Michael, since in my part of the world it is the gray/rainy season, and there are no visible stars in the sky. But I know they are there. It’s nice to know we share the same universe.

  6. What a magical night you have described in your beautiful haibun, Michael!
