Poetry Prompt 28 – Time Difference – Living in the Future

write-a-poem-which-features-a-time-difference

I found my friend was ready for bed

I said good night thinking it was odd

That at 3PM you would go to bed.

It’s the 18-hour time difference

You see, I’m out of kilter with so many

You’d think living in the future

Would be an advantage

I know tomorrow’s weather before you

But mostly its lonely nights.

The Internet has introduced

New worlds

New friends, new ideas

Different cultures,

I am more aware of others

Learning all the time

Adjusting to rising early

Saying good night

In the middle of my afternoon.

The future I say looks good,

Once you catch up to me.

Ooooh I love this! It has really got me imagining what this life would be like…

    • Sometimes it’s irritating. Sometimes it ok, but I just see it as that’s how it is and I can’t do much about it, though I can never find out the lotto numbers in advance.

      • PookyH says:

        🙂 what a shame!

How come you have do many friends in other times? I do increasingly. It makes my urge to check online the moment I wake even greater..

      • Certainly it makes for interesting days I know that. And yes I agree its always interesting to see who has said what first thing of a morning. Its become a way of life for me now.

  2. JackieP says:

One of the greatest things I love about the internet. Friends from all over the world in different time zones. So no matter what time you are on here there is always something going on, something to read or someone to talk to. And time is relative among friends.

  3. Bastet says:

It’s really very confusing at time isn’t it! I’m never sure exaclty when I’m talking to people…

  4. wbdeejay says:

Yes, living in Australia puts us in front of a large part of the world!

  5. Lovely poem, Michael. You have addressed the weirdness of it all as well as how great it is that our world is shrinking with the internet and we are all so connected…that part is pretty cool!

  6. RoSy says:

    The WP is awake 24/7.
I could use a few hours more in my day. But – something tells me that I’d always be looking for more time. So – will take what I get & deal with it.
