Poem 60

blacj_hole_in_my_heart_by_runokayno-d301ifi

There’s a hole in my heart

Self inflicted once again

My own ego punctured holes

Believing the unbelievable

Lanced through from my own ignorance.

Stepping in shit when I should know better

For dreams are just

Figments of imagination.

Long ago I learned

The difference between fantasy and reality

Reality hits you in the face,

Fantasy crushes your heart,

Leads you to unforgivable places

Where you imagine love lives

Only to find a barren desert.

Stranded, ridiculed, humiliated

While around you

The learned smile and shake their heads

Wondering why you never learn

Why you commit the same sin

Over and over, leaving you

Desolate, abandoned, useless

Ashamed of behaviours

That have left you shattered.

But knowing not too long from now

You’ll succumb again.

For that is the nature of your love.

A bit of a different tone from your other recent poems. Good as always.

So bitter, so sad. I hope this is not reality for you.

  4. RoSy's avatar RoSy says:

Oh the realities that hurt the soul. I wonder – are we the fools or are those hurtful realities simply the bad guys?

  5. Reality can be very painful at times brilliantly done Michael

  6. There is pain in this…is it a sin though if lessons are learnt along the way, sometimes not knowing what they are till much later, when the pain subsides. This was very good my friend.

  7. Georgia's avatar Bastet says:

Oh my…the hard knocks of reality and the shattering of our heart through fantasy… sigh. Good poem though, very powerful!

  8. Painful, honest, raw – wonderful work but I hope it doesn’t reflect your own feelings at the moment for any reason! 🙂

  9. Linda Vernon's avatar Linda Vernon says:

Powerful. And so true. Oh the wind must be overflowing with the caution that’s been thrown to it, all in the name of love.
