It all happened in a very orderly fashion,
There was a flash, an announcement,
Then it was all over.
In every country, assembly points were organised
Everyone was summoned to attend.
Vast crowds gathered, rumours and speculation abounded.
The poor huddled in one corner,
The rich stood in centre ground,
Convinced they should be first.
It seemed an eternity, an irony not lost on most,
Before the heavens opened and the light more brilliant
Than one could ever imagine shone on each of them.
The motherly face that appeared seemed an anti-climax
Until several of the well to do questioned it all.
Their question was answered with a bolt of lightning
And after that, no one said a word.
Humanity gathered in a circle
Each person the same as the other
Sinners with the pious,
Thieves and raconteurs all holding hands
United in the end of times.
The light shone down separating the left from the right
The bodies moved off powerless to object,
Terrified and oblivious to their fate.
Above them, the workers of the light worked feverishly
As time was against them
A new universe was beginning,
They needed humanities spirit and resolve,
The processing taking but a second.
New life began.
The mother figure looked down
Saw it was good
And moved on once again making a note:
This universe could only improve on the last one.

If the whole world could be replaced like so, we would most likely make greater progress.
The mother figure is right:
“This universe could only improve on the last one”
A powerful ending Michael.
Thank you for joining the challenge
Thanks Helene, great prompt as always.
My pleasure Michael.
Loved this Michael.
Thanks Di.
🙂
Great idea.
Thanks Sadje.
You’re welcome.
Great work and if you believe you can find lots of stuff on mother earth and how she has destroyed our planet numerous times and restarted it with a new population. From what I have see written she is not happy with this current population and may be thinking of wiping all out and starting over. This is stuff I have seen on Youtube.com and have friends and family who strongly believe this. I am on the fence about it myself.
I think we have a lot to answer for Tessa, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Brilliant, Michael. Imaginative satire with a huge chunk of humour, all underscored by a serious message. Great. 🙂
Thanks so much Crispina.
You give me pleasure; I give it too 🙂
THE CIRCLE OF LIFE, CHINA
A sentiment I deeply desire.
Thanks so much Paul, we live in hope there might be a change though it’s not looking promising.
No, the only glimmer of hope I’ve seen is Jacinda Arden’s leadership in NZ and the fellow in South America who is the president who lived in his own humble flat and caught public transport and redistributed two thirds of his income Forgotten who and where) but tiny glimmers, but none here.
Best take on the prompt I have read so far Michael.
Hi Violet, thanks so much, you are very kind.
A really good take on the prompt. I doff my hat!
Thanks so much Chris.
