August 2: Flash Fiction Challenge – The Yellow Tent

working-template-for-ff-challenges46

August 2, 2018, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that includes a yellow tent. Where is it and who does it belong to? Think of how the color adds to the story. Go where the prompt leads.

I awoke early because today was my birthday and I’d asked my parents for a tent as I had a thing for camping out.

Mum was already up in the kitchen fixing the breakfast.

She told me to look out into the backyard.

I stood in wonder as out in the yard was my new tent. It wasn’t as I imagined, it was a bright yellow. I ran out and immediately crawled inside. It smelt new, it looked beautiful and, in my mind, the first adventure was about to take place.

I looked out to see the pirates approaching.

  3. Lovely…………..a kid’s imagination is a wonderful thing

  4. Charli Mills says:

Tents and children are a magical combination and you express that experience well, Michael.

  5. Lyn says:

I never had a tent, but I did have a coal cellar to play in when I stayed with my Aunty and Nana. I think I saw the same pirates 😀

  6. But our swashbuckling hero is well up to the task of handling those dastardly pirates, I am sure 🙂

  7. That last line really makes this sail.

Please feel free to comment, I appreciate your thoughts.
