My friend Margo invited me to her dinner party. I always I was the only single among a collection of married couples.
Hence I would stand about looking the dork I was.
It gave me time to examine the table, which as always was a sight to behold. She really knew how to put on a dinner.
Then I noticed another woman arrive and I recalled some vague comment Margo had made about inviting a friend who would be alone too.
She saw me and came across.
“You look as out of place as I feel,” she said.
