The camping trip was well underway, and after a night of tales tall and true, we decided to call it a night.

We were four couples, and after zipping up our respective tents, we settled for the night only to awakened by the sounds of movement around the perimeter of our camp.

My wife grabbed my arm and from the other tents came the cries of fear and concern as the others called to each other.

I went outside to see what the noise was and shone my torch, but there was nothing to be seen.

I decided to stay on watch, and my wife joined me preferring that to being alone in the tent.

The only sound was a hum, a lulling hum that put us both to sleep.

When we awoke the first of the morning light was poking its way into the camp.

The only thing was, there was only our tent still there.

  1. Vivian Zems says:

This is why I don’t go camping! LOL

  2. James says:

I have to say of all the times I’ve been camping boy and man, nothing spooky has ever happened. Of course, there’s always a first time.

  3. Lyn says:

Don’t think I want to know who or what took their friends and the tents. Obviously, being inside the tent was the danger point. Breakfast or maybe late supper in bed? Maybe whatever it was thought they were eating burritos :/

  4. Makes me think of a UFO and they took the people that could be wrapped up easily. This will make it to the campfire yarns into the future.

  5. Good yarn you have spun. I wonder was it some human or animal or alien who took them away.

  6. That’s creepy. Too bad I’m reading before going to bed.

  7. Great story. Very mysterious.

  8. Fandango says:

My wife was asking me about the two of us taking a camping trip later this spring. Then I showed her this post.

  9. I was just debating going camping for Spring break and this story will be in my thoughts if we do!

  10. Reena Saxena says:

Maybe they were part of the conspiracy.

  11. I think their mates thought it would be run to creep off without waking them. You won’t put me off my camping trips!

  12. Spooky Michael. Camping never used to bother me. We have a pop up tent we purchased last year for Hubby to house hunt on his own but never used it. Vicious thing…….nearly took my hand off when we opened it. Maybe that’s what happened and the tents got their revenge…………. but no evidence! Ooooooooooooo-er 🙂 Cue Twilight Zone music

  13. Iain Kelly says:

I’m sure there’s an innocent explanation – like everyone else packed up and headed for the nearby hotel with the comfy warm beds!

  14. michael1148humphris says:

Ah the joy of camping, I once saw amost a whole field of tents blown out to sea near Weymouth. Only my families tent survived. Thank for rekindling memories

  15. Joy Pixley says:

So many things that might have been — how spooky and mysterious! The only thing that’s clear is that camping is obviously a dangerous pastime and should be avoided at all costs, ha ha!

  16. Oh my that is frightening! The other three couples disappeared! Wow! Great story, Michael!

  17. Ooooh, that’s another reason camping is dangerous. For one more reason, read my story 🙂

  18. mandibelle16 says:

Great take. That would be a shocking morning! I think I’d go back to bed a little, just in case lol.

  19. goroyboy says:

    Hmmm?? What could it be?

  20. I’m not one for night camping and you just proved me right 🙂

  21. Delightfully spooky. Just the edge you need ,when camping, to give it zest !
