She saw her life unravelling
Important bits were falling off
What she saw yesterday as whole and complete
Was today collapsing before her eyes.
It’s what happens when sadness descends upon you.
She saw so much had changed
The love she knew she felt
The affection she gave and received
Was once again replaced by pretend
Once sadness descended upon her.
Get on and live your life were words she heard
Over and over repeated you’re better off here.
The humdrum and chaos of a live not lived at all
The expectation you were present when you weren’t
Was what happened when sadness descended on you.
She gathered what was left
What hadn’t disappeared into the air
Held each thread as if to let go
Would allow her soul to wither and die.
For sadness had descended upon her.

Like echoes in an empty room…heartbreaking.
Yes, that’s an excellent comment Patricia. Just like that.
What you describe has been my reality in this lifetime.
Thanks for stopping by Cara, I’m sorry if this piece triggered bad memories for you.
A great opening line, Michael, that reflects a sadness in the image that I didn’t see at first – you’ve opened my eyes with your poem I like the repetition at the end of each stanza, like sadness dripping. It’s amazing how our interpretations differ!
The beauty of writing isn’t it how we see different things in the prompts…..thanks Kim for stopping by.
Just….Oh so beautiful! There’s a haunting quality to this.
Thank you Vivian…hope your Christmas week is going well.
You’re welcome! It’s hectic!!!!😆
Sounds like a normal Christmas week then…lol…mine is going ok….its very hot here at present, 40C+ the past two days….thankfully the supermarkets open early so I did my shopping today at 6.30am….but all is in readiness for Christmas Day, I hope…
So organised!! Please send the sun over😊
After yesterday Vivian, 40C++ you can have it all…thankfully today is much more pleasant.
I’ll take 40 degrees over this cold!😁
Well trust me yesterday was about 45C and it was very oppressive…..at least with cold you can put on layers, with heat there’s only so far you can go.
😂😂
And yours?
Depression is actually de-expression. Excellent writing, Michael!
