Weekend Writing Prompt #31 – Nostalgia

Prose Challenge – Write a story in 100 words where a character finds an old photograph.

Hidden amongst the memories of the past I found this photo taken, I suspect somewhere around 1930.

It has my cousin Bill standing behind my mother, her brother and one of their cousins.

Bill was born in 1916 after his father had left for the Western Front, was killed and never met his son.

Bill lived until he was 94 and as a small boy lived in my house with his grandparents, his mother having to leave to find work.

Bill had a mind like no other, he had two children, his son, John, is coming to visit me today.

It is such a poignant event to stumble on an old photo with immediate stories to tell.

Great to see how reality ties up with prompts and fiction. The universe directs a certain energy to us.

  3. A poignant tale, Michael
