This week’s homophones: Double Take: straight – not crooked strait – narrow waterway discussed – talked about disgust – sickening
Madam Claire made it clear that the only to ensure success in my new venture was to stick to the straight and narrow.
That meant sailing through the treacherous Straits of Doom towards the Straight Neck whereupon the Straits would narrow just enough to allow me entry to the treasure trove she assured me was awaiting.
We discussed the possibilities of failure, but she was instantly disgusted by my negative attitude and suggested such an attitude would find me straight down the gurgler.
The gurgler was a geological phenomenon in the middle of the Straits designed to give you the most disgusting of experiences by turning your ship into a mush words failed to describe.
After much discussion and preparation, it was decided I would set sail through the Straits on the next high tide to ensure my safe passage.
So, I made moves to get straight to it.

Hmmm. The gurgler . . . a new geographic phenomena to me. Bermuda Trianglish? But then, I can’t keep the straits straight.
Consider ‘down the gurgler’ as a literal and metaphorical term…in the same vein as ‘sucked the grub’.
Okay, in non-Australian, do you mean “down the drain,” lol
Yes, you know when all goes wrong and the moment is lost, its down the drain or down the gurgler….
Or flushed down the toilet. Now the question becomes, ala Bart Simpson, which way does the way go — clockwise or counter clockwise? A Sunday scientific experiment for you, or with a grandchild or two.
