Wordle #164 – Darcy Prattle

week-164

This week’s words: Climb Vague Sadness Perish Pangs  Nepenthe (n.)) A drug or drink, or the plant yielding it, mentioned by ancient writers as having the power to bring forgetfulness of sorrow or trouble. anything inducing a pleasurable sensation of forgetfulness, especially of sorrow or trouble.) Neolithic Four Offhand Reappear Sallow Abdicate (v)) to renounce or relinquish a throne, right, power, claim, responsibility, or the like, especially in a formal manner )

Ever since Neolithic times, there had been snake oil salesman. It had become part of the human condition, and Darcy Prattle was one such chap.

Darcy was blessed with an unhealthy amount of the blarney which held him in good stead as he made his way through life.

He was a sallow man, as well as being a shallow man. He had invented a nepenthe of his own which he claimed could allow you to climb every mountain and ford every stream. He claimed the secret ingredients were four lost herbs found only on the higher reaches of the Himalayan Mountains, a little to the right of Everest.

Not a man to get tied down to too much detail he was always vague and offhand in his description of the exact location. Many a man had perished he had said in their pursuit for these rare herbs which he added were the result of a five-year cycle in which time they would reappear a little higher on the mountain.

There was a degree of sadness the day Daisy Prattle, Darcy’s good wife, scoffed an entire bottle of Darcy’s nepenthe and went into a state on unconsciousness. She’d taken from her husband’s knapsack, and in doing so, Darcy abdicated all responsibility for his wife’s actions. There were no pangs of guilt but rather Darcy in his usual vague way was totally offhand about his wife’s action.

It was some months before she reappeared, looking decidedly more sallow than ever standing out the front of Darcy’s stall selling what became known as Daisy’s Strawberry Nepenthe, guaranteed to induce a good night’s sleep or two, cure the common cold and stop those irritating rashes that appeared after every visit to Madam Cherry’s Wellness and Spa House.

    – hahaaha – just a little to the right of Everest – that’s bloody brilliant Michael – absolutely hilarious! Love it!

OMG – I totally love the ending in this – what a wicked twist – and as for Madam Cherry’s (I’m choking in laughter on my morning cuppa) Wellness and Spa House? – and rashes – …. oh, how wonderfully you’ve played with the wordle this week Michael! Absolutely stellar use of the words – lightly written but slightly cryptic! with a dash of bawdy – just the perfect mix!
