The Task: Write a fairy tale in 150 words or less that has a guardian-type figure/creature in it.
The Fern Fairies, live in my back garden and I have been designated their guardian.
As a child growing up, I was fascinated by my grandmother’s fernery. She had what my mother said was a green thumb with ferns.
I was interested, and she taught me a lot about the different ferns in her garden.
One day she told me to look closer into the maiden hair ferns. What I saw amazed me. A tiny world, of streets and people all going about their respective businesses.
There was a sudden alarm in discovering I could see them, but Grandmother soothed their fears with a few strange clicks of her tongue.
I visited often, got to know many of the fairy folk. One day Grandmother asked me to take over her role as Guardian.
She knew her days were numbered.
That day began my many adventures with the Fern Fairies.
