It wasn’t that he wore a coat of many colours but more he many coats of many colours. Each coat reflected a mood he was in.
The blacks and greys were when he was in a sombre mood, attending weddings and funerals as he always considered marriage a death sentence in its own way.
He had a range of blue coats each for specific purposes, his navy blue for formal occasions such as the annual general meeting at the the Ex-Servicemans Club. The sky blue for the annual Football match when his team were the sky blues.
He even had a pink coat for the one day in the year when the patrons at the cricket all wore pink to support breast cancer awareness and fund raise for breast cancer care nurses. He gave generously to the cause as his mother had succumbed to breast cancer many years before.
You know when he had fallen out of love as he’d turn up for dinner with a scowl on his face and his red jacket across his broad shoulders. He’d mumble something incomprehensible about whoever it was he had his sights on, eat and then leave.
On the other side of the coin if he’d fallen in love, which he did for reasons he best knew knowing it was likely it would all end in tears, he would prance around in a yellow coat which always had a red rose in his lapel button.
So he was a man we all loved, a man of many coats each a reflection of his personality.

Nice Michael, especially the pink coat of support.
That actually happened last week at the cricket match in Sydney, the whole ground in pink they raised a lot of money….thanks Di for stopping by..
It’s wonderful isn’t it. My sister got involved in an awareness campaign about eight years ago when everyone dyed their hair pink, men too. She looked like candyfloss on speed, but they raised several hundreds of pounds.
The third day of the third test in Sydney is always breast cancer awareness day and everyone dresses in something pink. The players donate autographed pink caps to be auctioned off and they raise a lot of money.
This is just so brilliant. Not having TV or following sport of any kind as a rule, I didn’t know this at all. I was diagnosed in October which was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Almost half way through my radiotherapy now, and I’m feeling terrific.
That’s wonderful news Di….here is a link to the pink test day:

Thank you so much for the link Michael.
And they raised over and above their goal of $390,000, which is phenomenal 🙂
