Mum wanted to be on the Church Board and invited the Vicar to dinner. We were all told to be on our best behavior.
The vicar was a stodgy man and thought himself superior to us. My brother John was fascinated with the mannerisms and the Vicar had plenty. He pursed his lips and continuously flicked back his hair.
Mum’s worst nightmare was John copying the Vicar. Mum was fuming and when the Vicar left her wrath rained down on John. He was on chores until Mum heard she had been elected and then all was forgiven.

one can never tell …. some say flattery is the best form of imitation and perhaps, in this case, the mirror reflecting back was enough to make the vicar feel very welcomed!
interesting tale Michael – and great twist on a plot that is not often used 🙂
and I hope you are well 🙂
Hi Pat I’m doing well as I hope you are too.
hanging in there 😉
Very relatable. We had a lunch room lady with certain mannerisms we used to follow behind and copy. The Vicar must have been funny to watch as a child. Good thing Mom was elected 🙂
Yes good thing she was. Thanks for stopping by Mandi..
Lol !!
Maybe John’s “bad” behavior actually helped Mom get on the board after all. The Vicar seems like someone who needs to laugh at himself every once in a while. 😉 I say ice cream for everyone!
As it turned out it was ice cream all round. Have a good day.
Awww, poor little guy. I think he meant no harm. Nice take on the prompt.
Thank you Jenn.
I think I’d like your brother John. I loved to imitate people when I was a kid, too, only it never paid off for anyone–least of all me 😀
Well when it is someone your parents thinks is important you are never going to win. But a lot of fun at the time.
😀
