Prompt Nights: Imperfection is Beautiful

13110145144_4626718116_b

I am the sum of my imperfections

Every flaw and fault makes me

The character I am

Gives rise to the belief

It’s why women run from me.

I am not social, neither drink nor smoke

I am the boring guy at the party

Sitting in the corner, twiddling his thumbs

Understanding minute by minute

Why girls run from me.

I meditate on why I am as I am

Can I get it up, keep it up, leave it up?

That has never been an argument

The actual cause as far as I know

For women to run from me.

People have imperfections marking them

With features we all love

A roguish element we fawn over

Want them in our circle

Never a woman runs from them.

I am me, quiet and reserved,

Alone the result of a damaged past

Venomous heartless attractions

Ripped and shredded my soul.

It’s why women run from me.

Forever imperfect struggling,

Persevering refusing to give in

Finding solace in my deflects

An inner peace that I am who I am

When women run from me, it’s their lose.

I love this – especially the idea of being comfortable with who we are for it is our imperfections which truly define us. Beautifully penned. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support 🙂

    Lots of love,

This is a sad poem. I really feel for this guy who thinks he is plane and boring. But I’m pretty sure out there, there are woman looking for exactly that. No drama, just a normal guy. As you say in your last line “when woman run from me, it’s there loss.” I think that’s true 🙂

  3. oldegg says:

Coping with our imperfections makes us stronger. However there are millions of people in the world and finding a partner is possible by looking outward not inward.

  4. georginamorley says:

Absolutely is their loss…there are many out there who would be leading a much happier existence if they allowed themselves to notice the quiet one in the corner instead of the flash on the dance floor. XXX

  5. Cowards and losers, indeed! How can they run from someone with such a special sense of humor, aware enough (and wise enough) not to poison his body? Totally their loss.

This is wonderful, Michael. I love the humor, which serves as a veil over the seriousness of the motif. Fantastic! ♥

  6. What a great piece. Unquestionably serious subject matter iced with humor of the richest kind (subtle and dry and rapier sharp.) Gosh, you’re good.

  7. Sumana Roy says:

there’s a joy of adventure in every struggle and thank god it’s only reserved for the imperfect soul…this is a beautiful celebration of imperfection…

  8. Khaya Ronkainen says:

    Finding solace in my deflects
An inner peace that I am who I am
Love this ending! And those who run; it’s their loss.

  9. Jae Rose says:

The opening line is such a powerful statement – wonderfully carried through the poem – yes indeed when people run for the wrong reasons it is their loss

  10. “I am the sum of my imperfections” and knowing that is important. “When women run from me, it’s their lose.” But, you’re married tone smart cookie.

  11. Rosemary Nissen-Wade says:

Perhaps you are mixing with the wrong women?

    • Michael says:

Hmm..I’ve had that said to me before, actually a counsellor once suggested that the next time I fancy going into a relationship with any woman I run the idea past him…..sound advice I thought…
