FLASH FICTION FOR THE PURPOSEFUL PRACTITIONER: WEEK #2 – 2016 – Uncle Lenny

The opening sentence for the January 8th Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner:  “It seemed a good idea at the time?”

Uncle Lenny had assured us that there was no danger that according to him the input would match the output and it would be as he said it, plain sailing.

As the smoke cleared and the dust settled it became obvious that the sailing was anything but smooth. We coughed and wheezed, took a few deep breaths and the looked for Uncle Lenny.

At the far end of the room holding a cord, his hair standing at attention stood my Uncle, his face blackened, his dreams shattered, his experiment spread from one end of the shed to the other. He blinked at me, looked around and uttered his most famous line, “I think it needs a little more tweaking.”

  1. I could picture this really well. It seems we both thought of experiments for some reason. I think it’s something about how the lightbulb looks.

  2. I love Uncle Lenny’s most famous line :“I think it needs a little more tweaking.” Seems like Uncle Lenny might need some tweaking himself.
Another smiler with an out loud laugh at the end. Great stuff.

  3. Hahaha! This gives me such a comical picture in my mind. I love the last line, “I think it needs a little more tweaking.” I can picture his blackened face and the look on his face after his experiement backfired on him. Great story Michael!

  4. Nortina S. says:

Oh, Uncle Lenny, the mad scientist. And he definitely looked ‘mad’ after that explosive setback! Great story!
