Mondays Finish the Story – May 18th, 2015 – Surprise Orders

2015-05-18-bw-beacham1

Finish the story begins with:  “The crew of the Angel Flame received orders to head out.”

It had been a surprise order and Seaman Sean was concerned about the sub’s colour scheme.

Anyone who studied camouflage one-o-one knew that orange was not the colour to hide from the enemy.

He thought they would be sitting ducks which bothered him as only the week before he had written to his mother about some ducks he’d seen in the park.

Even in the deepest part of the ocean the orange would light up on anyone’s sonar.

Had they been going into the jungle the black and orange would have worked a treat.

So it was a matter of cross all fingers and toes and hope for the best.

So they chugged their way out of the harbour, while a pod of dolphins followed them.

Sean was sure he saw them laughing.

Bright orange-the color of a life preserver and Mayday flare–definitely a sitting duck! Good one, Michael 😀

  6. The part with ducks in the park made me chuckle :-)! Good stuff!

I had wondered about the orange sub myself. Wasn’t sure if it was military or something else. I liked the humor of your story 🙂

  8. Cute story! I loved the ending. 😀 🙂 😀

  9. Francesca Smith says:

Oh dear, I can see what he would think so. It is not very reassuring.
    Good and entertaining story!

  10. Angie Lin says:

Fantastic word choice! Pretty funny, I have to say. ✪

  11. phylor says:

Rename the sub: Sea Tiger — not only fearsome predator, but now able to hold breath, swimming under water seeking prey.

    • Hey I do like that name…..thanks for dropping in I’ll put the kettle on….

      • phylor says:

Sounds good — what tea do you prefer?

      • A wonderful herbal one called Tension Tamer by Celestial Seasonings……

      • phylor says:

I don’t drink herbal tea nor Earl Grey — long story.
I like Irish Breakfast and teas with gunpowder black in them.
Guess that’s because I’m a NA coffee drinker who likes her coffee strong.
I did drink Celestial Seasonings at one point in my caffeinated misordered life. 🙂

      • Gunpowder black? Really. The sort you stand your spoon in?

      • phylor says:

I’ve never stood my spoon in teas with gunpowder black — secret is not too much gunpowder mixed in.
At my aunt’s, the pot of tea went on the back of the wood stove (later wood heater) and as the liquid was consumed, more bags, more water would be added. At first your spoon stood in your cup, eventually, the tea ate your spoon.
I even like orange pekoe strong! And, I drink my tea clear!
We Canadians are a tough lot, 😉

Those dolphins are always laughing….this time they do have a valid reason to laugh. Nice and fun read.

  15. Cheeky dolphins… I do believe trouble is ahead! Good and funny!!!!

  16. OnChi says:

Haha, I can just see the dolphins laughing! “Hey, I was just paid to paint a camouflage, buddy. You didn’t tell me it was for the ocean!” :p

  17. RoSy says:

    Hey – the dolphins know.

  18. I think that sub was do for a repainting job. I hope they’re not going into combat. They’ll certainly be at a disadvantage. No wonder the dolphins were laughing. Funny story, Michale. 😀 — Suzanne

Just the thought of the dolphins laughing was worth the read! Nice job!
