Image: The Visitor by Janet Mayled
Week one’s prompt: Reflections on a Window.
From the driveway you are indistinguishable.
Closer and I see you
Scars
Wounds
A discernible limp
The path is steep
You labour the final steps
I watch, as you look hesitant.
Is courage what you lack?
You laboured your way
Always you were coming back
But selfish exploits of
Crossing seas,
Carrying crosses
For what?
Forgiveness
Reconciliatory platitudes.
I am sure glory rests easy
Inside your head,
Expectations of joyous accolades
A false face amid lies and deception.
One year you were heard to say
Why have ten past?

Hmmm. Such a back-story here. Reminded me of the prodigal son, in modern times.
Ah thank you Victoria that is a good observation though I’m not sure there is a lot of forgiveness at issue here. Maybe after some explaining takes place.
Such a powerful last line. I think time often does go quicker for the one who has left. But so slowly for those left behind.
I agree, and thank you for the visit and comment.
What a fascinating and interesting response /reflections to the image Michael. As usual, you paint such a vivid image with your carefully crafted words. Such lovely turns of phrase – I am sure glory rests easy / Inside your head, — so well done 🙂
Thanks Pat for dropping by and your lovely comment.
Lovely and sad at the same time.
Thanks so much Brenda. Happy new year to you. Hope it’s a good one for you.
And for you, too, handsome!
Handsome? My goodness clean those glasses…lol
LOL My glasses are clean, thank you.
