Safely contained
Petrified to step out
Afraid to venture
A fairy-tale princess
You wish,
Cocooned in your own fish bowl.
I’ve watched you
Read your words
Your self-flagellation
A pretence,
A barrier
Figment of your imagination.
Is it fear of the unknown?
Guilt of past sins?
A game your mind plays
On you
With you?
Where you ponder the world outside
Speculate
Postulate
Tighten your self appointed restraints
Until you stymie yourself.
You cannot move forwards nor backwards
Stuck, terrified
Denial is all embracing.
Should I reach out once more?
Offer refuge
Love
Perspective?

I can relate this piece a lot that fear of the unknown, the guilt, the self-appointed restraint that you have depicted in the girl. There is an expression the comes to mind “The only limitations are those you place on yourself.” powerful stuff
So true Yves, yes I agree we can be our own worst enemy. Thanks so much for reading and your comment.
Self doubt can be a terribly debilitating thing. It makes you afraid to try and even when you succeed, you still doubt yourself ~sigh~ Wonderful insight, Michael.
Thanks Lyn, you are so right on that one. Hope you’ve managed to stay cool today.
When you loose your self-confidence, you lose a piece of your soul. It is like being stuck in the glass cover of an anniversary clock.
Very true about those emotions of self-doubt and fear.
This is so true, i know this from experience. Thank you for reading my work.
Thanks phylor, I agree with you about the loss of self confidence. Hope you have a good day.
Oh my gosh, this could describe me at certain times in my life. I’m stunned! It’s like I’ve walked into a fortune teller’s parlor and you’ve told me all about myself without me saying a word.
My bit is a story.
Thanks Thalia, its my witchy side, it comes out occasionally.
Love the building nature of this, the constant questions. I felt this, deeply.
Thank you so much, glad you were able to connect.
As so many have expressed – this is a powerful piece.
All those negatives that we wrap and warp in our minds, giving them more weight than they deserve, leads to a crippling of the being, the spirit, the mind. Most difficult to step out of the “comfort zone” no matter how much we may hate it.
I love the gentle offering of hope and love as you wrote it as an ending Michael. Beautiful 😀
Thanks so much Pat, I appreciate as always your thoughtful comments. Have a good day.
This kind of struck home.. I have been the take flight person rather than the stay and fight person. I was my own guard and I hated it! Loved this Michael…
Thanks so much praj, glad you were able to connect with my words. Enjoy your day.
Too much self-doubt & staying in a comfort zone can be quite the restraint.
Yes indeed RoSy, thanks so much for stopping by my humble blog.
Your words relate to many of your readers, I am no exception, doubting our abilities, cocooning ourselves. Sometimes yes, we need those others to reach out once more, to try to make us see the value of ourselves. Very nice Michael.
Thanks Jenny, glad you could connect with this, hope your day goes well.
Dear Michael. Your words are emotive, powerful, perfect. The message is clear. So many of us are prisoners of our minds, though many are unaware. The ending of reaching out with love, perspective, brought tears to my eyes. Not knowing how to help as you watch someone you love in pain. Thank you for expressing it so beautifully. LHN
Thank you LHN, I appreciate your insights and comments. Have a good evening/day.
