I am travelling late
It is been a choice
Children kept me at home.
Now they are grown
I’m planning a few journeys.
For many years my only trip across the sea
Was one side of the harbour to the other.
I have since been to New Zealand
A land of contrasting landscapes
A beauty unique to itself.
A mystery awaits me in the future
Foreign lands, discovery, exploration
A chance to meet up with friends
Ride the Bullet in Japan
View the Tower, the Eiffel,
Be a tourist, camera in hand
Eyes open, mouth agape,
As history unfolds before me.
They say I will enjoy my travels
I plan to do just that
Broaden my horizons
Acquaint myself with cultures different.
So with my trusty bag of meds
I shall wave goodbye
Set off
Down
The road not taken.

And I do hope you enjoy ‘the road not taken’, see a lot of fascinating places, meet great people and come back a richer man. Thanks for participating!
Thank you Gabriella. I hope so too.
Michael, it is wonderful that you are deciding to travel now. When, if not now? Retirement affords you the perfect opportunity, and there are so many beautiful places to go as you broaden your horizons as widely as you can!
It is both wonderful and scary Mary. I’m off to japan in November.
Wonderful destination, Michael!
I am envious that you can travel to where you want to go Michael ~ Enjoy the journey as there are many roads “not taken” ~
Thanks Grace and yes that’s the thing there are so many roads to choose from.
drop me a note if you head to Chicago in the US, always ready to share a dinner
Thank you Bill it’s a place I have a few friends. One day I hope.
Michael, you’ll have a wonderful time. It’s never too late to make memories and it gets easier every trip. Have a wonderful time in Japan. Our younger daughter went there and loved it.

Thank you Janet I looking forward to it, I have a cousin there who is going to look after me.
sometimes the things we wait for are the best
Thank you and yes I agree, it’s never too late.
Very optimistic, this poem ( I sense a little hesitation) but I have a feeling that will soon disappear.
Yes you are right a little hesitation but resolve to go off and explore and enjoy. Thanks for the comment.
My travel is limited to trips to the supermarket. Or the doctor. Or my kids’ place. One day I’d like to report on my trip to England, Wales and Cornwall. Think Cornwall isn’t a separate country? LOL ask any Cornishman or woman 😀 I’m very jealous of your up and coming trip Michael, but I hope you have an absolutely fantabulous time!
Thanks Lyn, you never know one day you may be able to do all you dream of.
it is wonderful that you’re able to travel now… the meds bag made me smile.. and glad that you don’t let it keep you from exploring new places
The meds bag is a trusty companion and it wont stop me Claudia, thanks so much for your comment and support.
Your poem gives me hope that I can still manage to travel like I have wanted to, so I really liked it! Also, if you ever make it to Alabama, I can show you all of the best places to eat.

Thank you so much, I’ll make a note of your offer. Have a good evening.
I think this time for travel has to be used.. Somehow I think writing is in a way preparing for traveling in the future…
Thank you Bjorn. I hope to use my time wisely.
Have a nice trip and enjoy yourself… 🙂
Thank you Sumana I certainly hope to do so.
I was a late starter too…and have enjoyed catching up with the world in later life 🙂
Thank you Polly, I have a lot to catch up on.
One word…Jealous 😉
Ha Jenny, you are off on your own holiday, I am sure you will have fun.
Fingers crossed mate – thank you 🙂
Good for you – I too regret not travelling enough before I had the children. Now I’ll have quite a few years to wait until I can travel for fun again. Japan is bewildering but wonderful!
Thanks Marina I am looking forward to the trip. Japan has always fascinated me.
Terrific poem, all hope and optimism. And I love the ending.
Thank you Viv, glad you enjoyed my poem.
Oh how exciting!
Please let me know if you decide to make your way by me.
I would definitely take a day or two off work to hang out with you.
Have fun & enjoy the experience as you make your way around the world!
Oh my RoSy, I shall. I have another blogger in the Chicago area who has invited me to dinner. I’ll have to make the effort soon I think.
Very nice. I traveled to some very interesting places for business, but the constraints of business kept me from being a tourist and just enjoying the sights. Now I want to start all over!
Thanks so much for reading and your comment I greatly appreciate it.
The best way to see an area is in the company of someone who lives there–trust your cousin will introduce you to many spots that are not highlighted in the tour guides. Have a marvelous trip!
Thanks so much vb. I shall hope to do so.
Oh wow that sounds amazing!
Thank you Yves.
You might want to swing my Sweden and stuff me into your luggage lol
Ha I plan to visit Sweden one day.
When you do let me know =)
Will do.
