Glitz and glamour,
Tails and ties
Who’s who of poems
Mixing with who’s not.
Shakespeare swans around
Spruiking randomly sonnet18
To women standing agape
And men half amused.
The Romantics have their table
Intense conversations on their world
Wordsworth’s verbal diarrhoea echoes
Around ideas of the nature of man.
All around the air is afloat
With lyrical stanza and verse
As one would-be greets another
A cliché here another there.
The Poet’s Ball is fun filled
The American resplendent as a metaphor
The French teacher personified
The English their lyrical best.
In a back corner a young Aussie sits
Composing a ballad like no other
Ignored mostly he pens a tale
Of all rhyme and reason.

I’d be hangin’ out with the Aussie. 🙂
He’s an ok guy RoSy.,…you’ll be able to read his rhyme and reason.
I could be brutal and say ‘young’ Aussie..but I won’t, you have captured all the poets swanning around the room. Here’s to Dverse and for all the talented poets who mingle in their presence. Nice one my friend.
Thank you Jenny it’s a great ball, come join in.
Come hither wallflower, have some champagne! Nice write!
Thank you Dawn, the bubbly was delicious.
Everyone is here! And the music is captivating. Cheers~
Ah yes you dance divinely.
ha. where is the beats table?
i wanna hang out with them…quite the ambience you created…
and we cant let willie have all the fun can we?
the back table is a great place to be…ha
Thanks Brian it’s surprising who you’ll see there. Your metaphor was quite the talk of the ball.
Quite the party Michael. Everyone doing their thing. Where was my invitation? lol
It was in the mail curse the postal service I did send it. Thought you and your alliterative mind would enjoy a night out Jackie.
I’m waiting for that sonnet – they’re singing them in barbershop quartet style down by the pond. Let’s go!
Does Will know he loves a good sung sonnet. Hang on I am coming with you.
shakespear and wordworth… what a bunch of party guests – eh… and i like those on the quiet tables as well that just write on even though ignored by many – just because that is what their heart tells them
Sums up so many of us Claudia. Hope your enjoying the ball, the band is stunning don’t you think?
I know next to nothing about poetry — not the technical side of things that is, but I do know what I like and that’s why I keep coming back here Michael 🙂 Once, while doing an English degree at Uni, but never finished due to family commitments, we were given the assignment: “compare and contrast the old English ballad with the Australian bush ballad” No one was more surprised than me when I received an A+ 😮
Well there you go, you should give yourself more credit. Thanks Lyn for your great comment. I have a vision of you tripping the poetic fantastic.
Tripping… yes, definitely. Fantastic? lol not so much 😀
Can I please ask the young Aussie to dance with me 🙂 Its been a pleasure to know you through this community Michael ~
The pleasure is mine Grace and my but you do dance divinely. Hope are enjoying the evening. Don’t those WP poets look stunning tonight?
Ha ha. I had not expected the older poets to be there too but it was a nice surprise. I think I might stick with the dVerse people though and it is high time I went and greeted the Aussie.
He is a shy young fellow Gabriella. You’ll find him in the back corner and if you want he will dance with you.
Ha, I wouldn’t doubt that the back corner would be the hangout for more people than you would imagine. Smiles!
Thank you Mary it’s been surprising who has congregated there.
love the surprise here…
Thank you Sumana, hope you enjoyed the occasion, I thought your sari looked sunning.
Ahh..the visual thinker i am..converted into poet..after effective lost of sight..delving into a world of words..it still is the photos..THAT SEEM TO TRULY CAPTURE MY ATTENTION! and while i know that the road of trees..and man in distance..is a standard Word Press Visual stanza..

The greatest pleasure still is the standard stanza of that photo..i hope you don’t mind..

Thank you katiemia, I shall do my best, thank you for coming by my table to visit. Best wishes to you also.
Very fun how you have us gathering my our writing styles. Think I’d like to wander from table to table. I like to play the field. :0)
Yes Victoria I think that is an excellent idea, get around and see who is there, converse one never knows where it might lead you.
Wonderful party … shall we dance?
Of course Georgia my dance card says we are down for the Pride of Erin. Can’t wait as i believe you are a very experienced dancer, light on your feet, a living metaphor so to speak.
lol … glad you found an opening – but alas I’m not so hot with metaphors … for those you’d need Oloriel Moonshadow!
Oh come Georgia be the wind and the sleekness of the tiger as you dance with me around this magnificent ballroom.
(blushing with pleasure she give him her hand) My honey-tongued laddy … who could resist such an invitation!
Gets em every time….lol
;-D (kiss)
I’m partial to corners (& shadows) myself. I can see how such surroundings can inspire the most wondrous of ballads.
Oh yes rmp they do, mingle in the shadows and see what delights you uncover.
I like to wander and bask in the hi’s and hey’s… smiles lovely scene you created
Thank you Anthony I thought you looked exceptionally dapper this evening.
Wonderful 🙂
Thanks Ayala appreciate you reading and your comment.
The back table sounds like a nice place to wander..for here a great composition could spring to life..lovely write you have caught the magic of the night.
Thank you so much Truedessa it was a superb evening, and a few great compositions emerged.
One of the “Metaphors” stopping by here to let you know that I really enjoyed this, especially how you brought poets both present and past together. Well done.
Thanks Ginny glad I got to tango with you.
i’m-a thinkin’ that poet in the corner will not be ignored for much too long . . . looks like the poets, famous or not, are all in the house and no one stands a chance to be left out on the festivities. super gala you made happen with your words, Michael!
Thank you sun it has been a big night, lots of verses flying left right and centre. Good to rub shoulders with the famous.
I was so late to the party, I’m still trying to get around to speak to everyone. This is great work–anyone ignoring your poetry is missing a real treat!
Better late than not at all Jeff. Good to meet you enjoyed your poem, thanks for your generous comment. Hopefully see you round the pub again. Michael.
