Poem 126 – Jealousy

green-eyes-of-jealousy

I want what you have

He has

She has

Why?

Why not?

Why should I be left out?

You look so good in that

I wish I had one too.

Hang the expense

We’ll be like everyone else

Socially acceptable

Known.

I know I would look better than her

She’s so frumpy

Just because he’s doing well

Why should we look any less?

Have you seen the diamond?

Hideously big, on her of course,

She flouts it everywhere she goes

Roger is getting me a bigger one.

We have everything you know

Comfortable is how we describe it

Everything that opens and shuts

I desire noth.…would you look at that….

This poem is part one of a trilogy of poems dealing with the concept of jealousy.

    Roger is a fool LOL
Eh, desiring what others have is not the way to live, just makes you continuously unhappy.

  2. Lyn's avatar Lyn says:

Jackie is right, Roger is a fool if he panders to her. My aunt was a bit like that. She’d want something and say to Uncle Jim, “You’ll be sorry when I’m gone if you don’t buy it for me.”
A simple poem that says it all, MIchael — as usual 🙂

  3. Larry's avatar Larry says:

Yuck. The green-eyed monster of jealousy. It’ll eat you alive if you don’t understand its ways.

Funny way with words! I could see that playing out as the woman sat at an outdoor Manhattan cafe running her mouth, people watching.

    What prompted this?

Sheryl Crow comes to mind “it’s not having what you want it’s wanting what you have” Wonderful poem my onion…er..sara lee pastry…friend

    • Thanks Pat, your comment gave me a giggle early in my morning. Thank you for reading and your comment, I think you have hit the nail on the head with that quote.
My second poem is up now its an interesting concept to explore.

    Such is life.

We constantly envy and seek out the good fortune of others – or spend our times and days comparing our every day lives to the highlight reels of others…

When we capture what we seek, we soon realise it’s not all it’s cut out to be!

    Great Share Michael..

    Thanks 🙂
