Poetry Prompt 7 – An Antidote to Nightmares – The Gorge

nightmare

There’s a road

I drive into it

Down into a gorge.

The walls either side are sheer

There are only two ways to go.

It’s onwards I continue

Like an explorer

Seeing how far and what I might find.

The road leads to a narrowing

I slow down, the walls drawing closer,

I slow, the way is precarious

Finally a full stop.

There is no way forward.

My car is jammed, stuck,

As am I.

There is only one way out.

I am in a souring relationship

I’ve hung on too long

Miracles don’t happen

I’m in denial.

This nightmare is an awakening.

A message from my brain

One I already know

But refuse to believe.

To believe is to accept failure

Again!

I awake, the images vividly

Imprinted on my mind.

It is a warning, a reminder

Women, relationships, beware!

I withdraw.

Years from now I will emerge

Ready to try again.

I love your take… I think it’s a really positive place you seem to be working towards now Michael. I’m really happy for you (though the gorge did scare me somewhat!)

  2. Often dark passageways we travel..but there is light at the end I am sure 🙂

  3. wbdeejay says:

Wow, a very significant and powerful dream. I do like this.

  4. CC Champagne says:

I’m already weepy from another comment exchange I just had and this got me started again… This is beautiful, sad but beautiful. It doesn’t feel like that’s enough of a thing to say, but it’s the only thing I have right now…

  5. RoSy says:

    So descriptive.
I don’t know if it’s always denial. Sometimes I think that people try to hang on to hope or to a love that once was.

  6. JackieP says:

Such sadness, a scary feeling some know all too well. A relationship that is going bad, or is all ready bad, you just can’t hold on to it sometimes. For the best. But then hope lives that you find the one person who changes that nightmare. Wonderfully done Michael.
