Any Thursday, in case you didn’t know
Is pension day.
The supermarkets are a flood
With pensioners suddenly flush with cash.
So many weird people with their weird kids
You know the ones you never see on other days,
Drooling over their French Fries and upsized cokes.
All gathered in one place
It’s confronting and scary, not a place to be.
They come to spend the day in the mall
Pockets bulging with the pension
Lunch of Maccas or KFC, a good healthy intake
Of cholesterol, their hearts a flutter with excitement.
How good it is to stay home, or beat a hasty retreat
Leaving them to their version of misery.

Same all over the world I guess. Good description.
Thanks Kim, I hope you are well and having a good day.
Here it is the first of every month. I try to avoid malls if I possibly can at anytime. Yeah, I know, I’m weird. Good poem Michael, says it all for those certain ones.
Thank you Jackie I always check before I go which day of the week it is.
Smart man, but then I knew you were.
Wow, fooled you haven’t I…lol
Can’t be too dumb as you have me as a friend. hahahaha.
gotcha!
Oh yeah, got me there. Lucky eh?
I’d like to think so…….
Jackie and Michael, will you two stop gas bagging and write another story already!!!!
Opps didn’t know you were listening. Right we are on the job Lyn.
LOL
I hate shopping at the best of times – pension day is a definite no-no. You’ve captured this well, Michael.
So glad you agree I used to think it was just me being a snob. Thanks Lyn.
I have never paid attention to this before in the states. Interesting observation. I will see if the first of the month brings out the crazies.
Give you something to do first of every month.
laughing at Lyn’s comment! I don’t even think about the shopping and pension day, I’m not often at the shops anymore – so don’t notice lol.
Happy we could entertain you.
Shopping – I avoid it at all costs – except I find it kinda’ fun around the holidays.
We have something else in common RoSy, though I try and avoid it all year round.
I find it fun around the holidays only because I picture the smiles & expressions of those that will be receiving the gifts. I’m a sucker for handing out smiles.
Yeah I see your point Christmas is like that here.
That’s one good thing about blogging. You don’t have time to go to the mall as much. I’m so bored with the malls. But actually I do love watching the people!
People watching is fun some days Linda other times it can be downright disturbing.
Ha ha! So true! I guess I have a big supply of morbid curiosity, Michael!
Well malls on pension day is just the place to satisfy that curiosity.
I always have to wonder about their stories. And then some I just have to wonder.
Yes I know what you mean, the wonder often to do with what we imagine might actually be going on at any given moment between their ears.
Ahhahaha! So true!!
Thursdays is grocery day for most Quebecers and as for pensions of all kinds would be first of the month…I work shift work…thank goodness…so rarely am bombarded with this anymore.
Lucky you. Thanks for reading Oliana.
Ah yes. The mall. It was a favorite place for my daughter and her friend before they could drive. Everything was in one place and no weather problem.
Thanks patricia they are great meeting places.
