This week’s dVerse Poetics is asking us to write about shoes.
I have only a few pairs
Two black, one brown
An old pair works the yard.
To relax is have slip ons
Not thongs or flip-flops
But ones for lounging in.
My shoes are expensive,
At least I think they are
They are especially fitted.
In each I wear an orthotic
Helps me walk straight
I walk pain free.
They are super comfortable
I wear them all the time
Though not to bed, or the beach.
I have a struggle with size
I want to believe I’m a size eight
But a ten is more comfortable.

ha. its nice to have shoes that fit…we have to live with them…might as well make sure you are comfortable…my dress shoes are comfortable slip ons as well…on my feet all day as a teacher, so…smiles.
Thanks Brian, I’m a teacher too, though soon to be a retired one. In our job they have to be comfortable. The job can be hard enough without having to worry about our feet.
ah, are you the michael that visited just a bit ago? cool…what do you teach? i teach SPED in the math department at a high school…collaborative classes with a another teacher…we have a bit of fun with it and make a great team…
ha, true that on not having to worry about our feet….
It is I Brian, I teach English and Drama, I loved my time teaching drama especially allowed my creative side to flourish.
I work in an academically selective high school…I think it is wonderful that you enjoy your work…many don’t…..
cool…i was just talking to my son tonight…he enters middle school next year…he is big into drama and looks forward to being able to take drama classes…
He will never look back Brian, it is the best subject in the world, scary but a wonderful subject, has been so for me. I am going to miss it.
ten is the perfect size 🙂
lovely and comfortable..thanks for the comment.
I think comfort in shoes is very important, especially if one is standing up most of the day! I would say that the expense for wearing shoes that fit and feel good is well worth it!
Couldn’t agree more Mary and thanks for the comment.
I only have a few pairs too! I need the inserts and all so I can walk pain free they have to feel good don’t they…mind you I did buy ones with a heal recently not sure how long they’ll be on my feet! ha ha
Well being male a few pairs make sense, less choice, few decisions…lol…..I can live with that……and you can have the heel issues, i work with a lady who is not very tall so she wears huge heels everyday, it sometimes seems she is encountering a balancing act every time she walks around. Thanks so much for the comment.
this made me smile also the banter between and you Brian ~ aww ~ you are definitely not Emelda are you lol
No my dear, definitely not, as I said in a comment, not a lot of choice and they all fit perfectly. Thanks Jenny.
🙂 no both my girls are meant to wear orthotics – the eldest does, the youngest – hmm not so much 😦
best things i ever got, made a huge difference…
Lovely…getting the right shoes is so very important…and rather than have a closet full I think I’d give half my kingdom for a pair that really comfort my tootsies!
Thank you Georgia, comfort is so important.
Don’t I know it Michael…I wear those shoes that do comfort my feet until they fall apart! 🙂
Comfort in shoes are so import.. I love those comfortable ones… And some of the expensive one just lasts.. Funnyly enough those turned out less good were always too large.. I like them to fit like a glove…
Thanks Bjorn, yes you are right, when you find the right fit, the glove image is such a good one to take with you everyday when you step out in them. Thanks for reading.
ah it’s nice to have especially fitted shoes… i can imagine how comfortable they are from the first moment on… so you put your shoes on the table as well to take a pic…? i put mine on the table to draw them and my husband just shook his head…smiles
Thanks Claudia, I appreciate you comment. I used a coffee table…..and as I live alone I had no one to shake their head….Thanks again for reading.
I can so totally relate to wearing comfortable shoes in our job! These shoes are can be expensive but comfort has no price and they usually last longer.
Thanks Gabriella yes you pay for quality is how I see it and it’s worth it.
I agree–comfort is the most important. I can’t wear flip-flops or shoes without good support anymore. Great photo to illustrate your story-poem as well. Thank you.
Thanks Victoria, I find I wear my shoes with the supports all the time and I rarely have on my feet issues other than the fatigue of getting older. Thanks again for your comment.
This reminds me – I need to get me a pair of black dress shoes for work – that properly fit. That – or I need to wear thicker socks.
Thanks RoSy, I’m happy that this poem sparked a reminder to you about your feet.
I like that you have a few good shoes, and how you wove them into the poem is well done! Thanks for joining in for Poetics. I’ve got only a few pairs – winter boots, sandals, riding boots, slides and walking shoes. And high fives for being an educator!
Thank you Shanyns, it was a fun exercise. I shall try again. Thanks for the high five, one back at you.
