TALK
It’s cheap
She promised so much
The house, travel, adventure
Ambition was at the core
Long hours spent talking
Do this, do that
Go here, go there
Why are you such an arsehole?
Talk, intellectualising
Its what you did so well.
Pillow talk, gossip
Abuse the verbal kind
Became an art form
You practiced daily
Until your hold weakened
When words failed you.
I turned my back
Listened no more.
Now I talk of hope, future
A love never imagined.
Talk is no longer cheap
But valued, trusted, loved.

I am struck how your talk reminds me of a Franz von Stuck painting: Sin. Talk can be beguiling or beguised.
“Well done,” she smiled, “I like stories with happy endings.”
Thank you Miss DH, and who doesn’t like a happy ending….have a good day….
The proof is in the pudding isn’t it? Too bad that sometimes has to be discovered the hard way. The end of the story certainly looks promising ☺️
Thanks Mandy for out of hardship comes hope and the possibility of a loving future….
Painful…with a miraculously good ending; I’m happy for you!
Thank yo so much J
Most welcome.
This is a beautiful poem, Michael, that blossomed despite the difficult start:) It inspired me to have a go too. I love one word prompts!
Thanks Cheryl-Lynn I must go and read your poem as soon as I can…..take care…
Just so well done and written Michael – and yes, hope and promise after the storm – the silver lining – certainly a more comforting place and mind space 🙂
Thank you Pat, as always I value your comments….have a great day….
A good tale about talking well told!
Thank you Andy.
With partners and family – yes,
‘Talk is no longer cheap
But valued, trusted, loved.’
I liked this prompt too.
I did a bit of a mash up though:

Thank you Jules for calling by.
Such a painful beginning with a good ending. I wonder if he appreciated the new relationship more because he had had a bad experience? Good poem. 🙂
Thanks Susan, I think he was well aware of the new start and the hope it held for him….
Well she certainly got her comeuppance! 😊
She certainly did, thanks for stopping by…
No problem 😉
