She had that look, I’d seen before,
Oh no, here we go again.
The unwrapping, the discarding of paper
It took so long to painstakingly wrap,
Thrown to the floor as if it was nothing.
My spirits dropped,
I anticipated the ridicule
But none came,
Instead, she stared at my gift
Turned it over in her hands,
And when she looked at me
A tear rolled down her cheek.
‘It’s perfect,’ she said
‘Thank you so much
I couldn’t have asked for more.’
