June 27, 2019, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that involves paint. It can be fresh, peeling or in need of a coat. What is being painted, and why? Go where the prompt leads!
The old toilet has been in the back of the old laundry as long as I can remember. Dad built it as a second toilet, and it’s come in handy over the years.
At some point in its existence, dad painted it and time has not been kind to the cheap paint he splashed onto the walls.
The paint is peeling, curling off the walls and ceiling and every so often I go in and sweep up the bits that have fallen on to the floor.
I’m thinking of scrubbing it down and giving it a fresh new coat.

I lived in a house which had a second toilet in the laundry. We called it the “cold dark place” as it was at the back of the house, poorly lighted, and during winter was freezing. Though it was handy at times.
Sounds just like mine 😄
You’ve just reminded me of my mother. She decided to paint the toilet. Orange. And if that on the walls wasn’t enough to encourage constipation, she painted the door high gloss black. Wow! You could watch yourself go. Not nice.
Our 1940 built old house in CO had one bathroom. We in US mostly refer to a toilet as the commode itself. So painting it would not be good. Our bathroom was tiny with no fan. Since we were renting that house, we didn’t paint.
We have different words for this don’t we?
I really enjoy these differences.
Thought of painting our old toilet but never did. Then we got a new one.
I’d like a new one too 😇
The old one was costing us a fortune for the amount of water it used every time it was flushed. We noticed a big difference in our water bill.
Well yes I can see that. Having two is luxury I know 😀
We have such a toilet in the basement, and we call these “yooper poopers.” Often that’s all it is — just a toilet and you can watch any laundering happening and vice versa. Ours has a plywood stall so it’s a modest one. Your flash gave me a smile!
Ours has history as well as a need of a paint job.
I think sweeping might be easier work 😉
