Her body language
Said all the things she couldn’t.

I’d been invited to the dinner party as it turned out to make up the numbers. Joan had asked a woman from her work who was new in town and wanted to have an even number of men and women so I was the ‘lucky’ even up one.
The woman in question was a small woman called Maxine who insisted from the first that I call her Max.
She explained that she was shy and not very social so calling her Max she argued lessened the formality of the greeting.
We did get along well, she was more than happy to chat to me and we exchanged our life stories but whenever anyone else came by to join in and chat she froze on the spot.
What I did notice was her liking to sit close. At first I thought she may have been hard of hearing but it wasn’t that, it was more her desire to be physically close.
She knew it too and for a moment or two there was an awkwardness about us both as she explained she didn’t have a great body space around people she knew and felt confident with.
Up close you became aware of her stunning beauty. Once relaxed her face displayed a flashing smile and sparkling eyes that drew you in.
As uncomfortable as I was at first it wasn’t long before I was soaking up the pleasure of being close to her. I saw her as no threat, but rather a delight to be with.
Later our host invited us to dance and when we did, tentatively at first, I felt her draw herself in against me, her warmth engulfing me, her body against mine, her head upon my shoulder and me feeling nothing like ever before.
When the music stopped she stepped back and said, “Thanks, that was nice.”
Then she took my hand and led me to where we had been sitting.
I am normally a shy man, I don’t go for public displays of affection but Max relaxed me and to be honest I couldn’t have cared less what anyone thought of me.
The next day Max and I met again.

I think they could become really good friends.
I think they hope so too
Well, that was nice. However, if I’d been the guy, I’d have been totally embarrassed.
That’s why we are all different and react in different ways James. But I see your point.
Wonderful story. I think it’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship and . . . .
Thank you Lorraine, glad you stopped by haven’t seen you in a while. Hope you are doing ok.
Guess I’m keeping myself to myself. Just not the energy for finishing the writing that I start — like for the last two tale weavers. Beginnings, sometimes middles, but no ends!
You are very prolific these days. I admire your creative intelligence.
Thank you Lorraine, my writing does keep me occupied and off the streets.
Yes, we must keep you off those streets! LOL
Easy in this heat ☀️
True — I hear that it’s been very bad down under. Records melting, like the asphalt! Stay cool!
Doing my best
