Manic Monday #2 Challenge – Imagine

Imagine if he’d lived, that some lunatic hadn’t wanted a moment of fame.

Imagine if he’d lived and the world had become as one.

It’s true it was all just a dream, but without dreamers, there can be no dreams.

Would he be an old man in his seventies farting about playing his old hits and making a name for himself with outlandish comments upon society?

Or might he might have revolutionised music more so that he already had.

Would we be listening to new and exciting music or a rehash of the past?

But we’ll never know because he died young.

I looked into his face and wondered if he knew what lay ahead for him, did he already see how he had shaped so much of what we know as modern music?

I imagine he is tickled pink to think that after all these years we still enjoy listening to his music, that the song Imagine still brings a tear to the eye.

There’s a lot to be said for going out on a high, he didn’t gain everyone’s approval, but he left a legacy for us to treasure.

Ah, you’re a dreamer, my friend, but you’re not the only one. Thanks for this excellent post.

Michael, fantastically written. It flowed smoothly, I read without thinking I was reading – I was just done. Great image you found, by the way! I remember being a little girl and watching the news. Days I remember (1980 – I was 9). and hearing on the radio that Elvis had died in 1977 (I was 6) Both deaths were difficult to understand. My poor mom having to explain something she herself was having difficulty understanding. I always wonder “what could have been” – I’m sure he would have been just as successful as Paul (or even more). He would have continued to write and make music because that was like breathing oxygen.

I had a copy of the imagine album and we had a sound system rigged up in our garage and I played it over and over. I was a tad older in 1980 but like so many stunned by his death. Now days hearing that song brings me to tears as like you I wonder ‘what if’.

  4. Well said. We can only imagine these things, as we try to make a better world. Hugs.

Yes, just imagine what could have been. This is one of those days that stunned the world, that will be forever remembered. So sad.
