Rich and deep red,
Lighting up my garden
Awakening me from the gloom of winter
Shivering, longing for
the warmth of spring.
I’ll watch you grow
Nurture that wondrous moment
As you slowly take shape
Uncurl in all your beauty
My beautiful black rose.

I have so few roses in my garden, but I like a lot of different blooms… a black rose would be wonderful
I have another on the bush at present, photo taken this morning, that is going black around the edges
When we had a front yard we used to grow roses there. They were better than grass with no mowing.
Yes true Frank but in my case I have to mow around them….
I have red roses too in my garden ~ Such a joy to behold them in all their beauty ~
Love your rose photo Michael ~
Freshly taken this morning Grace…
You’re lucky to have roses so early, Michael. We’ll have to wait another month I reckon for the first ones.
Though it requires a lot of attention, cultivating roses is so worth it. Mine will have to wait a couple of months because of Northern Nevada’s most unpredictable climate.
Thanks Victoria, as I explain on another comment, the rose pictured is a very old one and keeps living despite all my neglect….
Yes, I saw that. Amazing.
I love this! I wish I had blooming roses in my garden 😀
Hi Sanaa, the rose in the photo is an old one from my grandmother’s garden….it thrives on my neglect…
We need to wait for June till roses bloom. Do you have white roses? Wonderful at twilight.
I have one small white rose but it flowers rarely, it could be it needs more loving but this year it is looking a lot better than it used to.
That’s a stunner of a rose, Michael, and I love the way you address her. We have mainly wild roses in our garden during the summer months – they don’t look as beautiful but they have intoxicating scents.,
The rose pictured Kim smells of turkish delight, the rose water they use in that confectionery. Its a very old rose, well older than me rescued I am told from my grandmothers place next door when it was sold a long time ago. My dad only gave me on instruction for playing in the garden, not to kill the black rose..
That sounds delicious, Michael. Old roses have to be the best.
So true Kim..
I love the visual that “uncurl in all your beauty” evokes.
Thanks De, have a good spring day…its autumn in my part of the world….
lovely poem and rose, Michael 🙂
Thank you lady lee
Autumn there…explains why such a gorgeous full bloom! A black rose is rare, I think.
They’re are a Variety of black roses mine develop a black edge after a day or two…
The smell of roses is intoxicating. They are very beautiful…a black rose is symbolic in many ways, but it has a rare beauty that stands alone.
Brought to mind an all together different memory for me…Roisin Dubh
Roses grow well here in South Australia. They are my favourite flower. Lovely poem.
Thank you so much, I’m over on the east coast where it is raining today…
I’m in love 🙂 (with the black rose… 🙂
So am I…thanks for stopping by..
Black rose is cool, but a red rose means love, love wins always 🙂
