It didn’t help a lost cause to realise we were in fact lost.
Added to the trauma of that realisation was the fog that had quickly descended and was now thickening by the minute.
She looked at me and I at her, together we shrugged at the hopelessness of the situation.
What had started out as a first date was now bordering on a disaster neither of us was prepared for.
It was all my fault. I had suggested we take a walk after our dinner down the track to the gorge. I thought I knew my way around.
But the fog came in and almost immediately she began to panic. Demanding I take her to safety I looked in vain for any landmark to help me rescue the situation. Nothing appeared in fact everything disappeared. I turned around and she was gone. Then I panicked!! Stumbled and everything went black!

I hope not all your first dates were this traumatic.
Interesting take on the prompt picture.
Great chilling story, Michael! I wonder why everything went black? A murderer? Everything started bleak and got even bleaker. Great story!
Thank you Joy. I hope your Christmas Day goes perfectly for you.
Thank you so much Michael!
Love the tension building and the mysterious ending! Just enough of a bite sized story to keep one delightfully satisfied 😀
Where has she gone 😮 Only the Shadow knows… 🙂
Yes that’s right…..
