When the comet hit, the town lit up like a Christmas tree.
The town had never looked so good. The toy store literally shone as it disintegrated into a million particles and the biggest store in town, Cooper’s What Not Emporium, sparkled like a thousand sparklers as it burnt to the ground.
We were left wondering what to do about the gigantic hole in the centre of town.
It took four days before the fires were extinguished and another four days for the town to come to grips with the fact that Christmas was going to be a different this year.
The Mayor met with the council who met with the Disaster Committee and in turn met with the sub-committee of the Disaster Committee and all concluded that a disaster had occurred.
There was untold excitement among the community as it was the first time in remembered history that any branch of the Town Council had actually made a decision.

Thanks, Michael, a definite smiler after the criers.
Wonderful take on the prompt. Kinda liked that line.
Fun! I love that final sentence: ‘There was untold excitement among the community as it was the first time in remembered history that any branch of the Town Council had actually made a decision.’ What do they normally do for excitement?! 🙂
Lol you have to wonder Kim. Great comment
Funny. No hedging their bets, definite decision and agreement. 🙂
Thanks Di and a merry Christmas to you and best wishes for 2017
Thank you Michael. From our home to yours, our very best wishes for now and the coming year. Take care.
Beautiful Christmas-themed story Michael! Happy Holidays 🙂
Thanks Jade and Happy Holidays to you too.
Love this piece Michael, it showcases your fantastic sense of humour. I liked how you described the comet as lighting up the Enporium as Christmas lights would’ve done, as it disintegrated. Also, that this was the first time the town council had made a decision. Thank you for a morning laugh. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🙂
Thank you Mandi glad to give you a laugh. Merry Christmas to you and best wishes for 2017. Hope your Christmas is a great day for you. 🙂

What do you do with a whopping big hole in the ground? A swimming pool of course 🙂
