J’a know that where I live we speak like this all the time.
We shorten as many words as we can lay our hands on.
Jahavagoodweekend is one we say a lot. For not only do we contract a lot of words we also run many together.
Which probably explains why when you get to hear me speak you’ll look at me in puzzlement and say: “Could you please slow down I haven’t understood a word you’ve said.”
It reminds me of the quizzical looks I received on my European Tour when my American fellow travellers would look at me in wonder at what I had just said.
To me ya see it makes sense.
I mean is it my issue that youse don’t get what I’m sayin’?
But I do concede that as well as shortin’ stuff we do speak without opening out mouths, which is a safety device we have developed to keep the flies out of our mouths when we say anythink.
So whatch think about that?

Smarvlous 😀
bewdy mate…
Hi Lyn, how are you? Good to see you back…
Still not back for posting, but I am commenting a bit more. Always manage to read favourite posts if only once or twice a week 🙂
Well good to see you again Lyn….take care of you…
Hahahaha! I think it is a good idea to keep your mouths closed – to keep those pesky flies out!
I’avet’feelf’ryamate. g’day.
Ah yes, the flies! Gottakeepemouttayourmouth!
Youngsters here often add ‘innit’ to the end of what they’re saying. Not to ask a question, but to emphasise (I suppose!). But then they also say ‘fam’ (shortening family). Anyone can be fam – an actual family member, but more often to say that someone is close friends, part of their gang.
Gosh. I feel old!
Charming 🙂
Good strategy with the flies. 🙂
Thank you Deborah, it works for us..
I know that if I ever hear you speak you won’t sound anything like I expect you to. I look at your picture and I see a North American. …yeah, for a writer I lack an imagination sometimes. 😛 😉
I’ll get brave one day and send you a voice message so your disappointment will be realised.😀😀
Hahahaha! Thank you, Michael. Hahahahaha!
Gotcha
Goodonya!
